Nah I think it's more down to the producers themselves not wanting to look like herbs. And I honestly don't "blame" them, they putting themselves in the best position to look good. They don't wanna be the butt of internet jokes. Like "yo you seen Such-and-such on that Mass Appeal thing? His beat was SO WACK!!".

Of course anyone who's remotely into this stuff understands the challenge of it. That's the whole point, to be a challenge, a battle with oneself.

Also, the Herbie Hancock Headhunter song Sly he weakly flipped should never be touched, it's a perfect beat as is. That's like sampling a Pete Rock beat.

They should have battles on the spot. And the drums should come from a break record. Like either both get the same break, or have them choose three break records prior and they flip for which break they both gotta use so you get a home field advantage.

You get to choose one genre and then a wheel of fortune with genres you have to pull from.

That daft punk record Nottz was playin was nasty. I need that. The beats he was messin with were soundin like they would be crazy. The piano beat was playin with my feelings.

Everyone's been doing a good job. But I still sense that fear of making a wack beat rather than just keepin it live. Go back and watch that alchemist beat making video where he asks that question about if you were stuck on an island with one record, you'd probably be flipping that record like no one has ever flipped it before.
