I have a quirky problem. I use a lot of synth and groove box kit with my MPC touch and to keep everything running smoothly (including my MAC) I have an external Midi Sync box called a MidiClock+ - It is one of these: http://www.e-rm.de/products/midiclock.php
It works perfectly with all my kit and runs my Ableton clock via a midi interface on my focusrite audio interface.
However with the MPC touch it half works. Basically I can plug it directly in with a new cable on the MIDI in breakout cable on the MPC Touch. I set the software to midi sync on the clock and I make sure the midi port is active.
The MPC Software then gets a perfect clock sync, with the tempo from the midiclock+ being visible in the software. I can adjust the tempo on the midiclock and it is refectled on screen. BUT.. When I click play to start play back the MPC software pretends to start playing... Both the MPC Touch and the software show me that they are in play mode and the clock beat is ticking over but the sequence / track don't play. You can't even start the track manually with the play button on the MPC Touch or in the software, it just sits in play mode with nothing happening.
I can fix it. Whilst it is pretending to play I just pull out the midi cable and plug it back in and then it works. In fact from then on for the session I am doing it is rock steady, I can stop start with no problem from the external midiclock+ device. Tracks play to the tempo perfectly and operation is normal.
So why do I have to do this odd manual cable pull out and plug back in to start the MPC recognising the stop / start midi signal? It can see the signal perfectly for temp and then works after I yank the cable. I would rather not have to keep pulling the cable when I am starting a creative session.
I was wondering if this might be a bug - or is is something about compatibility? I have tried different midi cables and also sending the synch first to the computer and back out to the MPC and the exact same strange "paused" but pretending to play thing happens. A quick cable pull and it works again.
