MPC2000xl "ALL_SEQ_SONG1 sH.ALL" FILE NOT FOUND!!

THIS SUCKS!!! I had two tough days trying to get my midi and MPC sync with my daw and finally got that working but now when I load my sd card I can no longer load my seq or songs. it has converted my files in my sd to some kind of sH.ALL. what the hell!!! I am so freaking pumped about this. help!

did you put the card into your mac? if so, it may have put junk on the card.

.ALL files should load in the 2000xl.

Not at all.

Have you tried renaming it back to the original file name?

Let try that now

I think the long ass file name is **** it up.

Here’s the thing, never, never use file names that are longer than 8 chars (excluding extension.) This rule goes to any type of files for MPC2000.

For instance,

FILENAME.ALL
is save, but

FILENAME1.ALL
WILL corrupt (mess up) the WHOLE partitions, sometime.

The reason is that 2000XL can only deal with old DOS file system, it CANNOT deal real with file names longer than 8 chars.

MPC2000 cannot distinguish

FILENAME.ALL
and
FILENAME1.ALL

MPC2000 see only first 8chars of the file names, so this will corrupt file system.
And if you connect this SD / SmartMedia card to PC, you will see two “FILENAME.ALL” because it is partitioned in old FAT16, and again, 2000XL does not support long names (of Microsoft’s specification), at all.

I don’t know why this is allowed to name file longer than 8 chars in MPC2000.
I’ve been there, I’ve lost my data before.
ALWAYS watch out for the filename!

so i renamed it by deleting the SH that was "mysteriously" added, not only did it not change its name, it created a new name and deleted my APS file. this is **** up. Wish I would have read the comments after. Can I change the names to the other sd that i have beats on without **** it up?

You may be able to salvage over files in the directory, but I don't think it'll work. I've been there.
I'd recommend to re-partition the card on XL.
Remember the 8 char rule!

I was pumped for a sec but this is all in the process of learning. I've only been doing this for 2 month and learning new things everyday. This forum is the best!!

and last but not least.... CF (compact flash) is a better memory card format for the 2000xl than SD

Is a 256mb CF card the largest I can use on my MPC2000xl?

It depends on 3 things:
- the brand/type of CF card you use
- what type of card reader you have installed in the 2000XL
- the OS you have on the 2000XL
I've used Kingston 2GB CF cards in an internal Microtech PCD-47B SCSI card reader using OS1.14c.
