when i sample, why is it so quiet?

i tried sampling onto my mpc but for some reason it comes it really quiet on my mpc, compared to sounds i load from a disk like drums or snares.

i haven't tried a turntable via a mixer yet. so far my sampling sources have been pretty limited. i tried some mp3's from my computer, connecting AV and 1/4 inch jacks from my mpc to a single jack (don't know what that's called) into my computer. i've also tried using my dvd player as CD player, using those AV and 1/4's into just AV's into my DVD player.

do u need some kind of amp (like u would use for a mic or turntables) or am i doing something else wrong?

The knob next to the Volume on your MPC is the Record gain. Turn that up (not all the way) and turn the volume on whatever you're recording out of up (get a cable that runs from your stereo's headphone jack [1/4 inch usually] to the two 1/4 inch inputs on your mpc, so the sound comes through your stereo reciever, not just the CD/DVD player). Get some headphones and plug them into the MPC's headphone output. This will let you hear what the MPC "hears" so you can check how loud it will be and if you get any distortion from having the gain or volume of the source device up too loud.
