Sampling with aux cable problem

I know this is probably frowned upon but whatever Tbh...I'm trying to sample off my phone with a 8th inch to quarter inch into L, mono but for whatever reason its messed up sounding. It sounds like unplugging one of the rca's of your turn table. Pretty much half of the mix clear the other half completely distorted and wrong. However when I sample with a quarter inch from my record player it works.just fine. Any way to fix this problem?

or if the cable you are using has 2 black bars on it on both ends, you shouldn't be doing that. you could be trying to cram a stereo signal into a mono signal.
