Finally Got One

hello all, I finally(after many years of wanting) made the purchase of a MPC(2000XL to be specific). i always wanted a 3000 but being realistic, i dont have $2000 to spend. either way after walking the line of Maschine/MPC, i found a steal for $375 on Reverb.com. check it out

thanks dude, how long you been rockin with yours? i'm hoping i didnt bite off more than i can chew getting the MPC considering the age of tech, but i really like figuring this kinda stuff out too. the anxiety is killing me i wish it would show up at the door already

Nice deal. Don't worry about technology. It's got a multicard reader. So it'll be easy to transfer samples back and forth with your computer. Have fun with it.

dont name anything in the machine with any names longer than 8 characters!
you will have trouble using the memory cards on a mac...consider just using windows/linux if possible.
if it doesn't have the max 32mb memory, get that asap.

otherwise you'll be good.

thats what i was thinkin. i got alotta drum kits on my computer ready to be carded

glad you mentioned that. can i curse on here? if not, FAWWKK cause i own a Macbook Pro that has a SD card slot which would be ideal given that they both can take the card. on to the memory tho, this machine is almost legal age to drink, now as good as is looks its still been around a while. it obviously isnt brand new but are the chances in my favor that it might have
max RAM? if it has the minimum amount, how many KB's will it say?

32mb is the max and chances are good it has it. it's cheap if not.
you can use it with a mac, but it just gets problematic because macs put garbage files on every drive they touch, and these freak the mpc out.
there are supposed to be programs to help with this (cleanup smb mess), but i have never had luck with them.
what i do is run xp on a virtual machine, or i use my actual windows machine.
not being able to work with your computer is not the end of the world - if computer integration is really important to you, you should consider a newer mpc that officially supports that. old gear is great and lots of us love it, just be prepared to put in the time and effort to make it work right.

I use a cf card in my XL and transfers sounds. Use this app before ejecting your card from your Mac. I've used this program hundreds of times with no issues. It deletes .trashes files or any other hidden crap that a Mac will put on it.

thats the app i tried that did not work for me.
glad its working for some though, so it's worth a shot. maybe i'll try it again as i move more and more away from xp

i found some cheap RAM so im not too worried about then. and im also totally fine with a older style MPC, i really wanted a 3000. since i never used one before im gonna learn the harder way, which i prefer because i'll know how to do it the rough way instead of letting the tech do the work. i might just buy a charger for my windows laptop and just use that. less mess than the Mac lol

I've had mine for about 2 years or so. I learnt how to make beats on it in a week, and that's me coming from software.
Once you learn the basics, it's mainly just fine tuning your craft and gettin' used to the workflow, it becomes second nature. The most fun thing I thought from coming from software is the data wheel! I was having so much fun just turning that shit and chopping samples haha!
