New to the MPC

Ok I am an old school hip hop head who cam up on Rakim, G Rap, Big Daddy Kane etc, and have always wanted to mess around with beats. I have a Maschine that some body gave me a while back. I have been wanting a 2000 or 2000xl ever since finding Dubs Banger on youtube. Last week I caught somebody slipping at the pawn shop and grabbed a 2000 for 100 bucks.Its missing a knob and im sure needs some atention. The screen has some lines in it and it hard to read but i can read it. when i turn it on re and green lights come on and say something like please insert MPC 2200 disk. My questions are 1. What disk arethey talking about? 2.Who could work on this thing for me? MPC Stuff sems alright? How can I find out if it has any sounds on it? I realy want to beat on it but I cant get passed the insert disk screen. Any help would be appreciated

1. The Operating System Disk, which you don't seem to have.
2. MPC-Stuff is a good resource to find the parts you need.
3. There are no sounds on the 2000, it's a sampler do you need to provide your own sounds.

Keep in mind, while $100 is a good price to be paid - the costs involved to get the 2000 up to par with a good working screen, replacing knobs and potentially other flaws will end up costing you at least another $250-300 to get everything straightened out - pretty close to, or if not more than it would have cost you to buy a fully working without issues unit in the first place.

Thanks for the reply. I know its a sampler but I thought you could store a certain amount of sounds on there. I want to know if it works before ship it off. For 100 bucks I will keep it as a display but I thinks it going to be fine. where do you think t best place to get the disk would be? I want the 2000XL but where Im at im lucky this one popped up. Are the lights doing what they are supposed to be doin?

The lights are not indicative of anything diagnostic. When you turn on a 2000, it's normal for all the lights to do that.

If you have access to an older computer with a floppy drive, you can make your own OS disk. Otherwise, you could easily find one on eBay or other places. Google is always your friend in this case.

oh, and why not buy the parts from mpc stuff yourself and fix it on your own instead of shipping it off... it's just a matter of unscrewing a few screws and unplugging some connectors.

My thoughts exactly. Theres plenty youtube videos on mpc-stuff as well.

I didn't reference the boot disc because he's selling it for $25. So check on ebay.

Thanks for the info. I guess computers from that time were not that complicated inside. I know a volime knob, the lever handle are missing and screen is bad but beyond that i wont know until i get a disc. Thanks for the info

Yeah it's basically just an old computer inside. It's fairly simple to repair and maintain these old machines. You'll get a life time's usage out of it when you replace the display.

Thats whats up lampdog. Thanks for the info. I am gonna get xl, it was one of those things where i saw it, i saw $100, and i was out the door with it before i knewxwhat happened. It is also missing the fromt cover of disk drive. Im gonna get xl and just work on this one when i can and get it back in decent order and either keep it or flip it. Im not to far from ATL and there are plenty floating around there. Thanks again for info
