time correct/note repeat and durations

when you run auto repeat on the 2k, you can play and hear with duration amounts as you perform them, but once recorded, you get only set duration amounts.

ex: you can play 1/16th note on auto repeat, & you can hear the sample cut short as you lift your finger, but it will always be recorded as if duration=24.

Does anyone have a good workaround for this? The best I can do is sorta guess that I go back into step edit and put shorter durations on the notes with lowest velocity but it would be nice if I didn't have to guess so much.

I like the kinda trippy effect you can get when very short decay and low sustain but high release times, it means a light tap will make a longer sound but the note repeat doesn't seem to record durations. No biggie but I wish there was a better way than to just guess the durations afterwords

Note repeat used with longer durations would run you out of polyphony quickly??

You can do it one-shot on MPC-2000XL. Check Page 70 of MPC2000XL user manual (Chapter 4, Editing the duration of note.)

but it when rehearsal, the durations are only equal to the timing or less.

AFAIK the note/off poly setting only applies to the internal sampler, correct? I'll try playing with this but I don't see how it will affect the MIDI

As you bounce from note to note or from event to event in step edit using < and > or GOTO + < and > the notes on the screen will play. No guessing when you can press < > and hear the recorded note.

right that's what I do, it's funny that the notes are all 24 duration, anyhow I have an ok idea of how it needs to be fixed,

Wow, I didn't know that MPC2000 classic doesn't have this function. I did move from 2000 classic to 2000XL.
Mediocre data support (floppy and SCSI only, and no folder support) was the main reason why I moved to XL.

I already checked the 2000 classic manual. I don't see the function that I mentioned for XL.
I think he has to change duration one by one, on step edit mode.

I have this problem too with my Akai AX-60 hooked up to my 2000 XL. It's probably coincidence our problems are when hooked up to other Akai gear? I think I even tried manually adjusting the duration of every note, but that didn't do anything either. Probably copy & pasted notes after that and still short duration even though step edit clearly showed otherwise. I don't think I ever got the problem solved, and the string patch sounds fine the way it was, so I didn't bother looking into it any further. Anyway, I thought this was on the AX-60's end, but I guess this thread clears some things up.
