Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

alright guys, so i recently got a blue MCD-2000XL that seems to be in great condition. although i havent had much time to play with, i been learning the navigation around the menus.

now that the prologue is over, i been putting sounds on my 1GB Delkin SD card from my Macbook(after i use the Cleanup SMB Mess app to get rid of all the junk) and putting them into the MPC and it works. so about 10 minutes ago(1:47am) i tried to save my sample for the 1st time(which is the MASH theme song haha) and i got a disk write/read error? after wondering if i turned my MPC into my new $375 paper weight from the RAM upgrade, i took to these very forums to see that the problem was with the SD card. i inserted the 32MB CF card in the MPC and tried to save my sample and it worked this time. im running 1.20 which i believe is right for MCD.

is there anyone using SD cards that work? specifically what brand and size.
if i gotta buy a multi card reader for my computer to use CF i will but i would prefer to not have to carry one more thing around.

thanks guys

well SD has always been said to be unreliable for the people who have those in the 2000xl.. CF is the right choice.

and you don't HAVE to carry around a card reader.. you could always sample into your sampler instead of just dragging your samples over from the computer.

gotcha man, i might try a few more but im gonna invest in a bigger CF card too. i do sample into the MPC but i only say the SD card because i have some drum kits i was using to easily transfer Mac>MPC.

wait wait, maybe since the SD card will transfer drums to the MPC, i could just load them up and save them in the MPC just switch to the CF after that?? i'll try that

Yes you can do that, you'll be limited to the amount of transfers by mpc ram.
Example mine is maxed at 32mb, so by your method I'd be limited to transferring 32mb at a time.

Sd -> mpc ram -> CF, 32mb max at a time.

yea i actually do something similar. i keep my sd card as read only, but write to the cf.

also cf cards can be tempermental. and sometimes the file system can glitch and will make certain files unwritable/unreadable.

i kinda tried that i think. i had the SD card and CF card in but it wouldn't read the SD even tho it had stuff on it. and when i went to load to try to find the SD, I couldn't find anything.

i found that the CF takes priority. in order to read the sd, i just eject the cf, go to main screen, and then back to save/load screen.
