Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000
By Rugged1 Sat May 21, 2016 1:28 pm
I just got this MPC2000XL week ago. I knew this problem before I havd it.
Guy who sold this for me, said that the problem is in the left channel.
Before I start to record sample I can see the LEFT bar jumping/flicker all the time, even if it dont have any cables on, or any sound comin from anywhere.
Then after the sample is taken, there is some horrible uncontrollable buzzzz sound coming to my headphone and sometimes everything starts to echo. Sometimes it dont take no sound from left channel at all, but sometimes rarely it does and everything sounds good.

MPC is now opened from the bottom.
I tough that I can fix that by myself with a soldering in a 30mins, but the problem seems to be much more complicated, since I dont know what I should do now, because I dont find anything visiple broken.
Theres some odd brown dirt in the board, around some of the black squares though. Could it be that?

Once I touched/moved the hole of the left record in, the left bar in the screen started to jump and flicker even more, so I quess the main problem is in that place. But where and what I need to do?
I dont see or find anything broken or dirty etc in that place yeat.

The MPC is itself very clean, it works and almost looks like a brand now and unused.
I got it, with only about 300$.

Please help me with this prolem.
Frustrating..... I just want get on to make beats as soon as possible. I have already waited 4 months....
I tought the problem is easier than it is.

Okey. I tried to take some pictures.
The flickering in the left channel (also little bit in right too). Left either is empty or it keep jumping all time.

I think this is where the problem is somewhere. I cant find what or where.
5th on the right is the left record in.

Some mess around those. Not sure if it has anything to do with this issue.

I think there might be something lose/broken connection under the last 6,3mm box in the second pic right.
Thats the left record in jack. What you guys think?
Maybe tha last owner has ripped the cables too roughly from the holes, and it has got damaged?

maybe the jack is not soldered in properly anymore.. it might be damaged. or maybe your cables are ****.. it's probably something physically wrong with it.. that type of thing can happen when some **** used to own the machine.

For f...ks sake..... I wrote a very long message what I have done now, but there was internet error and now all the text is gone..............

Well shortly...: I Had also another problem with the lights of the buttons. Some of them lights was stuck on all the time. Rec, play, 16 levels, track mut and D buttons lights were stuck.
I scratched and cleaned some of the "rust" type of brown dirt away from the mother pcb board, and now those buttons and lights are working normally just like they should.

The main problem is still there..... its still haves the flickering and all those problems in the left channel and in the voice.
When I turn more the rec gain, everything starts to sound like a robot in right channel and then theres the annoying buzz sound and echo some times.

I tried to get under those 1/4 jack things in second pic, with a soldering iron, but its impossible, because I dont have the pump to suck the melted parts away.
Thats what I need to do to get under those. That metal thing front of them is soldered to the board. Hard to explain what I mean, but I hope someone understands.

yeah maybe you need a solder sucker or a copper braid to remove excess solder ..

this sounds to me like the whole mpc inside needs to be cleaned.. every board may need to be scrubbed and perhaps capacitors need replacing.

Thats what I was thinking too from the start. Its probably damaged soldering under the jack.
I just cant get under the jack "boxes" before I unsolder the metal thing that holds them.
I cant do that without the pump that is used to suck the melted soldering away, because its soldered from 4 place.
Cant be nothing wrong with my cables, because the same problem was already with the last owner, the guy who sold this for me. Its not his fault since he told about this problem before I did buy.
And also its still flickering and doing that same thing, even if it dont have any cables in or any sound coming from anywhere.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. I knew this problem and where is it mostly, before I even got this mpc,
but I just tought that the broken/damaged part is in more visible place, so I can just quikly solder and fix the thing.
It got more complicated, because its covered somewhere and I cant see it what it is.

I allready did clean most of the dirt. I think its some type of "rust" that has came from the metal or plastic parts in the board.
Its not food or anything that has came from outside.
The machine is all clean and fresh and looks like a new, other than that dirt in that board.
If its some bigger problem than lose/damaged soldering etc, I may have to buy new mother pcb board or some other parts from mpcstuff and replace it. Really hope I dont need to do that. Way too expensive for me.

Any tips how to remove soldering without solder sucker or a copper braid?

I had an XL that had the same problems as you described.

I changed the 4.7ohm resistor in the lower right hand side of the motherboard, near the scsi and ide ports. It is a common problem that people also experience when putting in the 8 out connector backwards, blowing the resistor.

Try it out, it won't cost you much at all.
By Rugged1 Sun May 22, 2016 10:46 pm
hmmmmm........... could it really be that? That resistor looks normal. How am I supposed to know if its busted? I dont have tools to check that out.
The only problem now is the audio problems in the channels. You sure this is the same thing?

It's worth a shot man. Resistors can look 'fine' but not actually be functioning correctly, or functioning at all. You'd need a volt meter to determine that.

I can't say if it'll resolve your issue, all I can say is I've had a problem just like that and that's what I did to resolve it. *shrug*
