Bug reports & end-user support for Akai's MPC Software 'controllers' including the new MPC Studio 2, the MPC Touch, MPC Renaissance & original MPC Studio and MPC StudioB lack.

Regarding the MPC Touch

I've been looking at the AKAI website and it doesn't really state how much onboard ram the MPC Touch has.
How much ram does the MPC Touch have?

The MPC 4000 comes with 272MB and is expandable up to 512. How much does the Touch have without any upgrades or expansions straight out of the box?

the touch is not like oldschool mpcs you know about.... it's a midi controller that only works when connected to the computer so it doesn't have any ram.. you use it with a computer program or not at all.

dammit MPC. i understand why they do it, but that doesn't make sense. why do they keep leaving out the whole standalone sampling aspect of the MPC if that's what it's supposed to be? yes i understand they want to compete with the Maschine, but why do they keep making new mpc's that don't actually sample or work without an actual computer?

who works there and how do they get jobs? im seriously asking. why do they keep doing that? how hard is it to make a both?

the mpc 2500, the mpc 5000, the mpc 4000 and the mpc 1000 all can connect to a computer but can work without one. why would everyone continue to neglect the foundation of what makes an MPC an MPC?

is Native Instruments paying MPC not to be an MPC anymore. the whole idea of it being touch screen, and working with the MPC software (which is like the Maschine) is very intuitive and makes sense from a marketing and functionality perspective.

the option to use a computer seems like something that someone in "engineering" or quality assurance would have implemented.

"this MPC touch is really good it can do all the things Maschine can do. I've tried both, and im impressed with all the features and how well it matches up with the Maschine. the best part about the MPC Touch is I get the best of both worlds, and it's portable! I'm so glad they stayed true to the AKAI MPC name/product and decided that it would be effective to integrate computer technology/software, while still being a hardware unit that doesn't need to work with computers. the option of making it a midi controller is a luxury, but not a necessity for those that want to make beats and not stare at computer screens."

the new MPC's should rival the Maschine. like PC vs Mac. or Mac vs PC.

how do you get a job working for MPC? how come they keep leaving it out?

@kaydigi
To the poster above me. Hello my name is Tre'. If you could hook me up with one of these Samplers, I'd love to give them a test run and give it a real quality breakdown as far as capabilities, workflow, functions, usage and what not. Basically I know it'd be beneficial to the people at Pioneer to allow me give a genuine in depth product review.

If you're going to be entering the sampler market as an alternative to the MPC and Maschine, then my experience on the MPC, should provide a good perspective or frame of reference for improvements and innovation. Also I'm sure if you read the posts on improvements and suggestions for the MPC topics throughout these threads, there could be even more innovation and features that can be added in terms of improvements to make it not only a viable solution, but a studio essential. I'm a hardcore MPC fan, so if you could make something that'd make me reconsider, and it's affordable (1500 isn't considering the Touch is like 750,) then that'd be a good selling point.

what about the accompanying software? also an immediate improvement would be to somehow make the 8 outs on the back firewire capable. so that projects and files are immediate drag and drop like the Maschine.

you would want to be able to do everything in the box from a standalone perspective. but also be able to connect it to your computer and it be basically your project opening up exactly how it is on your hardware unit but on the computer. i think MPC software does this already.

anyways ya'll need to hook me up with one of these. i was studying electrical engineering, but i'm more into doing quality assurance and testing equipment. i'd be able to help improve your product and if given the opportunity to work with the equipment i could do demos and help promote the product.

[email protected] if we can somehow make this happen. peace.

  The SP-16 will ready in August, all you can do now is preorder one but I would wait until Christmas for Pioneer to iron out the bugs.

I don't get why everyone whines about this so much. Are you really wanting curl up on your couch with an mpc and work? The only one you could do that with is a 500 or 1000 anyways. Even when and if they do release a standalone 90% of people are going to use it with a computer anyway.... I love having it hooked up to my computer and have it work with my daw and be able to drag and drop samples and preview my whole sample library with ease. I'll admit there are some stability issues possibly solved with a standalone but other than that I love my ren!

some people like having it standalone for live sets.. and the 500 doesn't really cut it sometimes. and some people used to view the mpc as the best alternative to using a computer.

Don't wanna make music on my computer.

Only for mutlitracking out (Reaper) and Sound Forge (sample processing).

Why in the world would you leave that out if you knew people were going to whine about it? The standalone sampler vs the music hybrid controllers is like the difference between gas powered cars and electric cars.

If the world were to go completely green, gas purists should still be able to use those cars. It would just be more expensive and a luxury/investment in comparison to being cost effective and environmentally friendly.

Well that sounds like a bad analogy until you ask yourself how you can get an electric motor to feel like or be designed like a classic muscle car. For those people who insist on maintaining feel but staying true to design. Basically it would be the best of both worlds.

Bang beats out all week, mix- on computer on Sunday. Or bang beats out Monday and mix the next day. FireWire drag and drop or a direct project mpc sync integration would be perfect.

Why wouldn't akai make a new hardware hybrid unit that does everything as far as the mpc 4000 workflow functions and features go. Way more ram like at least a gig, and a simple way for me to transfer the project files (I think mpc software does this) that rewards me for being a loyal akai customer by being able to read all project file formats for all past Macs. From the 60 to the 5000 (and even jjos)

I totally get it and I would prefer a hardware mpc mostly for stability and just in case my computer takes a shit but I don't get why its SUCH a big deal. I think the upsides outweigh the downsides personally. The integration of VSTs, the drag and drop of samples, being able to browse my computer on my ren and not having to buy a separate interface. The real issues I believe is in the software stability and its shitty plugin. I love my ren. If you really love the workflow of a hardware ren just turn off your computer monitor and bam... hardware mpc! The only place I could see this being a real issue is when you are preforming live.

For me it´s the opposite...the downsides outweigh the upsides. But that´s why we have choices, right? No need to disrespect each other IMHO.
