Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

hi
i have just managed to score a factory MCD (blue)
i can't seem to find a MCD-specific manual or addendum and want to quickly ask, before i potentially corrupt any cards, whether the "factory" MCD MPC's are hot swappable both CF and SD?
i have done a quick search but most of the content seems to apply to after market upgrades
it seems the machine likes the CF card to be in the slot on boot up?
how does it choose which card to use, can you select CF or SD within the load screen as i couldn't see a choice and hot swapping the SD card seemed to crash the unit when i tried, happy if its in on boot up though
can you set either SD or CF to read only?
can you partition SD cards within the unit?
thanks and sorry for the likelihood of it being a rather boring thread but without the manual..

While powered on and you try to swap media and it crashes, THAT means it cannot be changed while on, meaning it's NOT hot swap capable.

IDE - Non hot swap mcd
ATAPI - Hot swap mcd

Both are same connectors and look exactly the same, different technology though.

Hi thanks for the reply
It does say ATAPI as the disc so meaning it is potentially hot swappable?
I am A little confused with the priority between CF card, SD card- how it prioritises between the two, whether they can both be read, ejected and switched between freely and as I say I cannot find a manual addendum for the MCD factory version
Perhaps one was never produced?
I just wanted to check in case I corrupt the media as I have had issues with CF cards in he past
Perhaps someone with a MCD factory version can enlighten me to their disc procedures?
Thanks again

i believe they wont be hot swap if they require 1.20, but potentially can be if they can run on 1.14.. but im not 100% sure to make a blanket statement.... typically you have to install and test on a case by case basis.

and don't worry about corrupting anything, as long as you aren't removing the card during the save process it should be fine. Also, CF cards tend to be more reliable than SD cards.

No.

MPC menu shows ATAPI whether your drive is ide or atapi.

It crashed on you when you took out the card while powered on.
I just TOLD you what that was.

IDE - Non hot swap mcd - power off to swap card.
ATAPI - Hot swap mcd - can swap card while powered on but not while saving/loading.

Atapi isn't as easy to find as it once was.

Those 2 peices are a damn good combo from what I've heard for many years here on the forum.

so far this set up just feels right for my needs, Maschine was almost too feature-rich for my liking, i ended up getting options paralysis
plus i found i hardly ever actually sampled anymore just ended up grazing on endless loop farms
a knife a fork a bottle and a cork..
