Will the Renaissance be rendered obsolete by future update?

I have the Studio silver now (and still wish to keep it for portability) But I like the features of the Ren. I like the idea of the built-in audio interface & 16 q-links. Chopping samples is a bit of a pain now. Since they are discontinued, I'll be buying used.
Is this a bad move? Will the Ren be made obsolete by a future software update? Opinions?

no,legacy hardware will be supported well into the foreseeable future .

Obsolete? Probably not, but no doubt there will be new MPC Software features that will only work with newer controllers. We've already seen this in 1.9 with XYFX (as well as the additional pad colours). But personally I would buy a Touch now, not a Ren.

The touch is top notch I hope the new model comes with 16 qlinks or the make qlink edit operational soon.

I bought a touch and while it is cool, I couldn't help but get right back on the REN. I find I always prefer real dedicated buttons vs. a touch screen, so I hope AKAI recognizes that many folks will prefer the hardware/dedicated button option in their future hardware. Besides the touch alike the studio are too small for my liking. What would be great is to have the larger REN size MPC as well as an optional touch screen, that I would think would be perfection.

You should get a MPC 4000 and connect it to a touchscreen.

everything becomes obsolete at one point, but not necessarily irrelevant...many still produce on SP1200's MPC60's/3000s ....look at maschine studio vs MKs...the same functionality give or take few new features in the studio version.

how do the pads compare ? thinking of picking up touch for on the go so do dont gotta lug the ren around.

The touch pads are nice, about double the thickness size of the RENs, both same response. I've got both here, the touch has the fat pads, the Mpc Touch pads are much thicker. That being said,get the one that feels the best overall, workflow wise or snatch both. I have the REN for studio, and the touch to travel with.
