MPC1000/JJOS2XL

I am trying to do this set up (called handshake ?) between my synth and the MPC1000
#1.. MPC "midi out" -------> Synth "midi in"
#2.. MPC "midi in" <-------- Synth "midi out"

The problem is my synth is a desktop. So the synth "midi in" is already used to plug in the midi controller keyboard and it is not available any more to do the connection #1.

I am trying to program synth sequences on the MPC by using the midi keyboard+synth, and have the MPC play them back on the synth.
Would this work if I used a midi-merge box like this:

MPC "midi out" ------------------------------> "midi merge ---------->Synth "midi in"
midi controller keyboard ----------------> box"
??

You shouldn't need a merge/thru, etc

MPC MIDI Out A -> Synth MIDI In
MPC MIDI In A <- Synth MIDI Out

MPC MIDI In B <- Controller Keyboard MIDI OUT

MIDI settings on MPC - Soft Track - All Through (or something like that)

Setup your track to be a MIDI track and talk on MIDI channel Ax where x is the MIDI channel number the synth is set to

I'm paraphrasing by memory, but that should get you in the ballpark with perhaps some additional tweaks necessary.

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately I am using the other MPC midi ports (both in and out) for another synth, so they are not available. (Sorry, I didn't mention it in my post to keep my question simple.)

So my question about a midi merge box: would it work ??

If you're sequencing the MIDI into the MPC, you'd need one of two things: a MIDI patchbay or either two through boxes or ideally a through (for the outputs from the MPC) and a merge. (for the inputs into the MPC)

The solution you proposed has no way to get the MIDI from the controller keyboard into the MPC.

If you just wanted to jam the synth via the controller along with a sequence from the MPC, you're already there.
