Sampler limitation on MPC-2000; It doesn’t play FM bass well

It just perplexing. The XL works just fine. I didn't even notice that much.
I connect my headphone directly to XL. I hear the same sound. I'm sure it is not cable.

I used test tone & pink noise from audio test CD (taken from CD lens cleaner CD) and played from my MPC2000XL, and recorded with Quattro USB in 24 bit 48KHz, stereo.
The test CD is in stereo, but I just used one channel to make WAVs for MPC, since left channel and right channel seem to be identical. (I did not merge stereo to mono.)
With this test I could not spot any obvious distortion.

Checked the files and they look ok, very odd!

Right, I couldn't catch / detect any smeared part, like the Lately Bass.

I don't know why there was out off frequency on the WAV file.
Maybe I accidentally entered a wrong number (less than 100) to filter during recording.
But, either way, the noise was there.

Interesting thread, I only skimmed thru but just to add that I've used both a 2k Classic & a 3k with a Lately Bass patch & never noticed anything odd with either sampler regardless of pitching or filtering.

OK, I'll try that. I think 2000XL has RAM test function, so I'll use that first.

By the way, 2000XL does have RAM check function, it's hidden function (I know that Lamp and others know this, but for the reference.)

Go to Trim screen (Press SHIFT + 5)
Then press SHIFT + 1, to go to hidden menu.

the 2000 classic has it too .. but the button presses are different.
go to mixer (shift+7) then press open window and then press shift+0

I ran RAM test on 2000XL, but it passed the test. I’m going to take out SIMMs and do what Lamp suggested. (I've lost count how many times I opened my 2000XL!)

I've been following this topic and I'm curious to know what's causing the issue. Keep us posted. I have a feeling that it's something in the AD/DA circuitry rather than the RAM. But keep on the process of elimination. I'm sure it'll take a bit longer to repair. But it shouldn't be that costly to take care of.
