Sampler limitation on MPC-2000; It doesn’t play FM bass well

OK, I removed SIMMs from the XL and loaded the same WAV file. The result was exactly the same as before. Just that I can safely say that is not SIMMs that are causing the issue. At this point, I'm not even going to repair the XL. I'll just use it as it is.

It sucks that the I/O circuit is on the mainboard unlike the 2K Classic. So swapping I/O boards aint an option. But it's not a complicated circuit. Should still be easy to isolate the problem and repair.

Yes I do have 8 out board, and it does happen to 8 out signal as well. (I don't have an effect board.)
But, I didn't notice the issue until I tried to use the FM bass.
I guess my 2000XL doesn't like FM syntheses, LOL!

So was the problem specific to your MPC? I have a TX81Z I could sample. I do know that because of the nature of FM synthesis, aliasing happens at different notes & frequencies and what may sound good at one note can sound like complete shit at another, but I would think that pertains to to synthesis, not sampling, because whatever you're sampling is at one frequency and you're just changing it's pitch when playing back the sample, not the FM modulation, like with synthesis and playing it on a synthesizer.
