Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

help needed.
I havent had this problem before, so I don't get it what Im doing wrong/differently now. :hmmm:
The tracks on different drums are getting mixed somehow.
This is what I need to have:
-Drum1: drums track1 track2 track3
-Drum2: samples track4
-Drum3: bass track5
For some reason when i move to drum2 and want to create the track4, it jumps back to drum1 and creates the track 4 there so the track 4 is in 2 drums...
Actually before that it makes track 3 also to the drum2 and thats the biggest issue. It starts to play samples on drums notes when I move to drum2 since the track3 is for drums. If I erease the recording from there it also removes it from drum1.
So how to make it so that certain tracks are only in certain drum?
Drum1 goes well, but when I move to drum2 to samples the problem starts.
What I have forgotten?

I've never had that problem before.

Are you set to record on MULTIPLE tracks at the same time?
Check out Page 54 2kxl manual. I don't know if that's the problem or not, I'm guessing.
On the main menu pay close attention to the S:DRUM? : PGM NAME

To lampdog: Not sure. I think I only record on one track, but the track and the record for that gets copied in to drum2 when I move in to it. I dont know why. There is some important step, that I have forgotten.

Thanks for the manual book pdf. I only have the manual book with german and I do not understand any german. Seller did lost the english one.

For the other guys question:
No but, I use 3 programs for different things because I think its more simple and comfortable that way, because I take samples from 3 different records.
Thats how I have allways done and everyone else does this same thing (,well the ones I have seen usin mpc and every tutorial too).
You can see the way I do from this guys tutorial videos, except he don't have this problem.

What is the thing he did to program and track, but I didnt?

How to assign track to be separated in to only one program?
When I move from drum1 when im on track3 to drum2, for somereason it creates the same track3 to drum2. It plays the samples that happen to be in same pads even tough im in different program.
If I delete the recording it gets deleted also from drum1.

I understand it's what you're used to but you can do it with one program.

I know I can, but it gets more complicated, since I have to compromice the sample recordings and pads etc.
I dont see it as an solution for this, because I like my own old way more.
I can still make beats with this problem tough. All I need to do is to leave tracks that are between holders empty. That way nothing cant get copied in to wrong place. I just need to record in to track 5 instead of 4 and instead of 6 to 7.

Also, I do it in 3-4 different programs, because I want to have different settings for drums than samples.
It makes things sound better that way.

Well I try to figure out from that manual what I do wrong.

go into your program selection and make sure your programs have unique program numbers. also check that there aren't any program changes in your tracks. are you setting the program change via the box in the bottom right of the main screen? that is a good way to do it, but it will cause problems if you have any programs that share the same number.

what i do is resever tracks 61-64 for program changes. i set 61 to drum1, then dial in the program change there. i set track 62 to drum2 and dial in the program change. etc etc. this makes sure all my programs -> drum assignments are loaded correctly every time. again though, this only works if every program has a unique number.

it's really important to keep the distinction between drum slots, tracks, and programs - they all kind of intermix so it can be confusing at first, but it is that way for a reason.

i bet your programs are sharing pgm change numbers - i have experienced this before when i have a lot of programs. each one has to be unique or it gets confused.

2kxl manual pg 114-115

Yep. I did the track thing in wrong order.
Apparently Im supposed to "create" the new empty track first and then move to DRUM with that and after that name it etc so it gets in to correct program.
I did move first to other program and then made the tracks, thats why it took copy of the drum1's track recordings with it, because the track part was empty in drum2.

I actually just finished a beat a minute ago, so now I know how to do it.
Create/choose new empty track/tracks first then move to drum. Name it there and it is "locked" in that program.

i still dont really follow you - but glad you figured it out. i'm confused how you 'create' a track...all 64 are there. also don't get what you are naming as the programs should already have their names. what is 'the track part in drum2'?

basically, every sentence you said doesn't make sense to me

but mostly - glad you are up and running.

it's really handy for having 1 drum program and then say 3 melodic programs - for example made with auto-chromatic. sure there is wasted pads on those programs, but the upside is they become sort of universal programs you can flip between sequences and they still work.
