MPC SP 1200 drums and MPC vs the competition

Hi Everybody:

I am currently going back to some tracks from my old zips and couldn't find one disk. It was an SP 1200 kit made by a company in texas. Does anybody remember the name of them? They worked with mpcbeats.com (think that's the company in LA). I am currently going back to my old zips and going to a local studio that has a 2000XL (used 9 years) and dumping everything in pro tools. Working on old stuff and my catalog this year, among other projects. Back in the day I use to browse this section with the production techniques section (which I still browser every now and then).

I stopped using the mpc 2000XL years and years ago. I am currently a maschine studio and mikro user. Was wondering how you current mpc users feel about the mpc longterm vs NI with Maschine vs beathang (still around?). Think Roland will jump in again? Just in development, enhancement of software etc. Who do you feel will be around long term or which will be better? I'm a very passionate NI user, but don't know what I will be using long term. I think daw wise it will be logic or studio one. Everything else is a crapshoot.

I'm personally waiting for MPC 2.0, I really want to put the audio tracks and realtime time stretching through it's paces. I'll continue to use Maschine as an effects and sound genertor.

I think the MPC line can generate money for Akai. Your still asking about longevity? It's been over 20 years.

I think Akai made a good move with the touch screen thing, it makes whoever does it next a copycat and not very innovative in the drum machine sampler world.

From what I have been reading about Maschine and its issues I think it's worth a shot to try out a Touch. I don't run into those problems. You can also load up your MPC 2000 library into the MPC software. Ive did the same. The translation isn't quite perfect though, you're going to need to adjust a few things.

The Beat Thang company is out of business I think. Hopefully Roland doesn't bring another plastic, bright light, bad midi timing machine to the table.

I'm not sure about that company who made that SP library your talking about.

Luckily I made SP libraries for the MPC 4000. I load those up in the Touch often. Back home I use a S950 as a front end for sampling into the Touch and 4000. Gives a nice color to samples.

I use Ableton Live with the MPC software. Works great for me. All in all I'm pleased and having fun with it.
