Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hi, I've borrowed an MPC2000 classic off a friend who hasn't used it in a few years. The disc drive isn't working but he had the startup disc on a zip drive. When trying to load this, the MPC reads it but the screen sticks on 'MPC Ver 1.72' - the machine is all lit up but none of the buttons respond.

I thought maybe it was the zip drive but tried with another and the same problem. Then thought maybe a corrupted disc so got a new Zip with the OS but it's still the same.

I've searched the forums but can't find anything - any ideas? Am I missing something really obvious?

Thanks v much

The original zip was the one my friend had that he always used.

The second no one I tried was bought off eBay.

Both had 1.72...can't help but wonder if I'm just missing something really stupidly simple? Zip on, then machine on, lights and screen on...it reads the disc, then nothing...

Sorry, not quite nothing - as mentioned in the original post, the screen runs through the various scsi inputs etc and then reads 'MPC Ver 1.72'. It's seems to get stuck on that, and none of the buttons respond (although they're all lit up).

If I remember, the MPC2000 has to have both "MPC2000.sys" & "MPC2000.exe" files on the boot disk. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
But... If it's a ".zip" file on the boot disk, the MPC2000 won't boot up. You'll have to extract the 2 files from inside the zip file.

Your right, and no other files on the disk, no zip files, nothing, ONLY those 2 above mentioned files.

I know that one of the discs used to work, and the other was bought off ebay as a startup disc. I'm guessing they're not the problem...the Mpc even reads that they are V1.72. Could it be a hardware issue?

Did you redownload 1.72 and create another start up disc yet?
