Using the Arpeggiator with JJOS 3.

So the other day I checked this video on how to use the arpeggiator on MPC 5000

and I thought about messing around with the JJOS arpeggiator on my MPC 1000 to create some hihat patterns.
I had some difficulty understanding some of its concepts and I thought about asking. First of all, is it possible to use the 1000 arpeggiator the same way it's elaborated on the video? Also, what are the differences between the up, down and the other modes JJ has added on it? Should I use the auto-chromatic assingment on my program first?
Sorry if those are noob questions but I couldn't understand what I was actually doing when messing around with it.

yea you can do that in JJOS. You have to know that the ARP kinda depends on what you press midi note or pad wise. So as its a basic ARP it wont be too wild and 2 versions are 2 octaves I think. Like all ARPs there is a up and a down, and you will be able to tell what they do when you use more than one note.
so can make a one note ARP but that is not the point, just showing you that program depends on arp range and what keys you set. If you want hi hats pitched across then yeah you need to make chromatic program but you can do it with just a few pads to, depending on pads pressed and choice of ARP

Thanks for the answer, I think I'm starting to get the grip of it now.
What I was thinking was creating a 1/16 hihat pattern with my hihats going up or down a few notes, just to be a little more groovy. So I will assign my hihats and start experimenting with different pads on my arpeggiator, that'll do it if I understand correctly.
