I think you should create a fresh startup disk.

Find a way to get those 2 OS files onto a zip disk.

But yeah, the Boot files might be corrupted or Zip drive crapping out.

Totally understand why you would say that - but two separate zip discs and two separate zip drives both crapping out (I have both an iomega 100 and 250, same with both)? Really thinking it must be the machine itself? I might be wrong. Thanks again for all of the replies, really appreciate it. Losing hope on the MPC and may just have to continue with Maschine after all...

I've only ever booted up the 2K with an OS disk in the floppy drive. Forget about the zip for a second, is the floppy drive completely dead? Is there a floppy disk inserted?

I'm not exactly sure what the problem is with the floppy drive, my friend told me that it's screwed, and he only ever used the zip drive. He's away at the moment so can't check either.

The floppy drive is still in there, haven't bothered to try it though as I was told it's not working.

It did used to boot from the zip apparently, which is why I'm at a loss as to why it doesn't work now.

i gonna go out on a limb and guess that it's because zip drives (and disks) are complete shit and should never be used... even compared to floppy disks.
