I've never been that active, neither around that long. But I am happy since I got the controllers (with several drawbacks), but they anted up my production workflow like a million times. And as of 1.9.something, they do work most of the time. It's quicker to make a new beat than to discuss anything here, so...

The thing is, many of those who are really damn good at something do not know how to be teachers. Teaching is a different skillset entirely and you gotta be super informative.
95% of those making those "this is how you make a beat" video totally forget how much info you gotta give. Number one reason why you fail as a teacher is forgetting that your crowd does not know about your thing, so you need to be really detailed. If you saturate your kick, be ready to explain why.
I teach Ableton Live every now and then (I'm certified and I also have a teacher's degree from the university), and almost all my students always say they have been watching plenty of free tutorials on Youtube but haven't got that much out of them, and the need to be able to ask things always arises.

Lol, yes generally unimpressed with 95% of youtube 'tutorials' (it's a stretch to call them tutorials, more like 'fly on the wall, take it or leave it').

But that's pretty much the general state of play in most markets these days. Take samplepacks - there's now an entire industry out there that comprises of 'ya boieee drum kits', 99% of them are a few sloppily edited chops from vinyl, with just a folder containing maybe only 30 actual sounds inside, proudly declaring 'compatible with all samplers and MPCs' yet provided only in 24 bit (so only compatible with three MPCs) .

And I just love the ones that pat themselves on the back because (to quote their own product descriptions) the samples have 'NO nasty “digital-clipping”' - WTF. Kind of a pre-requisite for a pro sound pack isn't it? Are you actually proud of the fact that you managed to not clip your samples? A lot of these clowns even have the cheek to call themselves 'sound designers'. WTAF.

Ha! Then there's people who say they love using analog samplers and who do sample packs and market them by saying something along the lines of "drumsounds from the analog world" which means they've been sampled into an MPC or something

YouTube Beatmaking tutorials are a trip. It's like one person made a tutorial on a beat making technique and all of his followers made one after they learned the technique. It seems that everybody on YouTube has the exact same beat making process.

Arkyve's tutorial on chopping on the MPC 4000 did help me out though when I first copped the 4K.

The Ren is a dope sequencer for my VSTs. It's a weak and wack sampler, unless you're a chop-shop producer, but I have my MPC 4K and EXS 24 for advance sampling so I don't really care.
