Studio & Ren?

Hello…..

As my Ren is no longer working (and I cant see Akai fixing it anytime soon) I have been considering buying an MPC Studio. I was thinking I can use it while I wait for Akai to pull their finger out….and I have also considered in the past that it might be a nice thing to have if I am on my travels or fancy just taking it outside or whatever….

I was just wondering what people’s opinions might be?......is it a good idea? Or am I just being impatient and about to spend 300 sheets on something that I won’t bother with when my Ren is fixed?.....I cant tell……and also I’ve never used the MPC Studio…..

I’m feeling a bit irrational at the minute because I’m so fugged off with my Ren being broken…..I need some rational advice…..

Everything about the Studio is good except for the lack tilt screen. Also how much did you use the full 16 qlinks, it's a pain to toggle in rows of 4.

You get use to it after time but initially it's awkward.

My experience is exactly that: The Studio gets me working while I am on the road, and that's great. I end up using my Studio (silver, that is, the ol' model) more than my Renaissance itself. I only fire up the latter when I actually need to sequence my hardware synths and when I need the actual physical outputs. Other than that, I am rather content with the Studio, in my opinion it is the better buy for the price (if you have other ports free for interfaces, that is).

I rarely use Q-Links except for those rare moments in a live setup, but since I rather produce than perform, I am very content with the unit. Couldn't give my two cents about the black edition, but I'd grab it if I could spare the money right now and replace my silver one. Those "new" Q-Links and jog wheel look dope, and they're one of the features my Renaissance has in advance over the Studio.

I'd suggest grabbing it and have fun, if you dig the workflow, go for it. But don't buy it just on my opinion alone. I wouldn't want to miss the unit, though.

By the way, the buttons on the Studio are just what I need. Almost three years in use now and I wouldn't swap it for anything.

P.S.: I do know my post here might be heavily biased. But in the end it's up to you. I'd suggest going for it.

It gets the job done. But it's totally Midi Controller feel - not a hardware feel like the Ren where you can hit pads and buttons without really looking at the machine.
