It started when I
I began DJing because of the skill of people I saw doing it, and how
sick it was to watch and listen to. That didn't last as I quickly got into
production.
I started producing as a way to make records that I thought would sound dope, in order for me and my click to spit over.
Then it also evolved into a love of the machinery and the gear.
I really started to enjoy running the machines, and became
a real gear head. To push the gear and use it to create, to produce, is a fulfilling thing.

It has to do with the idea of a person taking an idea from start
to finish, and prinitng the mark of excellence on
something that has unique traits of himself in it.

Being a producer, for me, is about the satisfaction of the best overall
product that I can make, and executing that from start to finish.

I always knew you could generate money and industry with
production skill as well, and that certainly hasn't hurt my love
for it.

So, go ahead, buy Fruity Loops. Go get reason.
Buy an MPC4000 on credit.
In any trade, most people will use a standard set of
relaible tools. You use a hammer or a nail gun, it
don't matter. As long as you build a solid structure
with it.

it was on his website. this has been around for a long time. its just a photoshopped pic. the og one is his him checkin his email .

99% of the people who think they are "producers" are really only beat makers. There's a difference. Dropping a few kicks and snares is not the same job a real producer would do for say Destiny's Child. As a producer you have to run the show in the studio, tell the artist how to sing and be inspirational. Whipping up a sheety track in Fruity Loops does not automatically make you a producer.

to me a producer does what the guy in the below link does on a day to day basis not just punch in kicks and snares on an mpc:

My mother played piano and sang, and my father played guitar, so there was always music (and instruments) in the house. I started as an Emcee, but I didn’t know where to get beats, so I started makin my own. I haven’t had much "professional training" aside from the classes offered by the Detroit Public School system, but it gave me a basic knowledge of music theory, arrangement, and so on.

What’s my motivation? The people you’re speakin of, wack “producers”, the lack of good music bein released, the alleviation of everyday stress, my passion for music, my refusal to waste talent, my competitive nature, hot producers that make me step my game up, hot Emcees that brings that creative vibe to the lab and the potential profit from something I largely consider a hobby…. Not necessarily in that order.

….. but I feel what your sayin’ for some people its just a passin fad. I read some peoples’ gear list (famous and forums) then listen to their tracks and it doesn’t match up. So, I understand why people just download a music program. Some people should. I know a couple people with nice set ups, but they tracks are STRAIGHT GARBAGE. But to see them bobbin their head to that filth is inspirational…. They’re happy.

I had dabbled with Fruity Loops at around 13 but didnt understand it so I just deleted it. Years later I was sent to a site that had a bunch of the original samples for the songs that are out today. I was amazed at how producers flipped those joints so I wanted to get an MPC because that is the staple of hip hop production.

I ended up gettin a Fantom but will be adding an MPC to my arsenal in about a month. But the thing is, I have STUDIED the production craft so much and ive learned so many different things that im not really bothered by all these "wanna be producers".

I mean, you just gotta filter out all the obstacles that these kids have to go thru before quitting or being sucessful. Im only 18 but I have an ear for music. These kids have to have an ear for music. They have to bypass learning FruityLoops, then the hardware gear. They have to learn about sounds (kick, snare, hihat, etc.), and creating music that doesnt sound unprofessional all without quitting. I agree with the guy who said that its a fad to these kids.

That is why I dont feel threatened, but it is why I get aggravated with the naive people who one day wanna make beats like Kanye overnight because they got some equipment. On other boards i see threads like "Im gonna get a keyboard tomorrow, what should I get?" A decision over a workstation should not be made overnight. Add to the fact that a REAL, SUCCESSFUL producer is one who is consistent. Anyone can make a hot beat, but to keep their work hot is the difficult part and if these guys dont have the right ear for music then it wont happen.

If its meant to be then its meant to be.

dunno why everyone slags fruity- we all know its reason which is shit .....as if making a beat on fruity loops is really different to making a beat with anything else...anyone who says im not listening to that cos it was made with fruity loops is just insane and doesnt have a real grounding in musical expression, appreciation or a grounding in reality for that matter...
