PS my man is selling his MPC 2000XL for $450!!!! Beautiful condition all the buttons,no scuffs.I`m leaning toward buying it.I know I can get more for it based on condition alone.No 8 outs expansion board though.I`m not sure if I wanna learn another machine right now though.I`m comfortable with the 500 right now.

I used to own a 2000 (non xl), and have a 500 myself.
The XL has better chopping, but the xl lacks a band pass filter, and like you said no expansions, and that means no fx board. My 2000 had the fx board, and personally I'm an effects (I like reverbs) guy. I don't need a crazy gang of fx, but having the bread, and butter fx is nice.

Does the 2000xl have a "mute groups" function?I`m too lazy to look it up right now.But that`s a deal breaker for me.Mute groups are essential to me.I use that function religiously.

No, but there is a work around.
I came from an MPD which obviously is software driven and uses mute groups and all that.
Then went straight to an XL and taught myself how to use it without all the fancy stuff. Drums slam on it!

Ive been on the Ren for the last cpl years. But was on the XL for nine. And I've never used "mute groups" I've always done "pad mute". Which is what you have on the XL.
How are you using the mute groups?

@sick it looks like you'd be better off learning/relearning note off to compensate for the lack of mute groups. I just use pad mute but I know it's not as fun as having mute groups or the MPC 1000/2500 JJ style of cut off no matter what the pad is.

What group of samples would you need to mute? I'm very interested in how you guys utilize this feature. Not counting drums. Explain how and why your needing to mute a "group" of samples. Please.

This thread here explains it. I think it's the updated files.
Basically it's a mess around but thankfully someone already created the pgm file so you just need to load it as a template.

I've still yet to play with it.
