Broken Arrow Keys

The "up" purple arrow key on my 1k has limited response. Has anyone out there had this problem too, and how can I fix this problem?

I had the same problem with my LEFT arrow key, Sometimes I had to push it kinda hard or push it a few times for it to work, but somehow, it magically fixed itself. I'm guessing that maybe there was a little chunk of something that got in there, then worked itself out.

I remember hearing other people say that theirs started working by themselves also. You could ride it out and see if the same happens for you, or I would say you could either try to spray some compressed air in there from the top, or take apart the MPC and see if you can blast it from the inside.

If none of those work for you, you can order replacement parts from VST.

My right arrow key is on and off with how well it works. Sometimes it's flawless and sometimes you have to press extra hard.

If you are really bothered by it you can have it serviced or if you're even remotely competent with a soldering iron you can find the tact switches on ebay and replace them yourself.

i replaced it anyway because i was doing some surgery anyway at the time and figured what the hell

these things are all over ebay for .03 cents each, mad cheap

Anthonym..can you tell us what are the exact specifications ffor those switches..
I've got 3 buttons that don't respond well so I guess the quality is pretty poor.Have you got some references for high quality switches?

I am having the same problem; if I press really hard, then the switches seem to work, but if I don't, they don't. I have reason to believe that the switches are O.K. but that maybe years of banging on the switches has caused problems with the solder joints. I am going to test this hypothesis tonight by going over every joint on the switch board with a soldering iron to re-flow the joints. I'll post back with my findings.

Well, re-flowing the solder joints didn't improve the situation for the buttons. My new hypothesis is that the switches are getting dirty or oxidized (both?) because after a bunch of button presses, some of them improved. The one that did not improve, I simply replaced. It's pretty easy to do the job with moderate soldering skills. The thing you need to watch out for is the ribbon cable to the lower left of the circuit board. If anyone is interested, I will post a tutorial on how to conduct the repair (usual disclaimers apply: I accept no responsibility for damage-- proceed at your own risk!)

Easy fix, the issue is your tact switch. Just re-solder on a new one or take it to your local repair guy. Costed me $70 for 7 buttons.
