Need help downloading os 1.2 software

Just got an MPC 2000xl with a cf reader. I am trying to update the software to os 1.2. When I download the software from the Akai website all I get is a 513 kb bin file. My question is will my mpc read bin files or do I need an expander of sorts that I have to purchase online to get my software files into my MPC?

the mpc came with a CF reader... does the CF reader already work in the machine or is this something you bought separate and plan to install?

If it came with the cf reader, and it doesn't work... you need a floppy drive or something like that to put the OS file from your computer on to it.

If you are using os 1.14 and the CF drive works... keep os 1.14, it is a better OS (IF it works.. if not then os1.20 is the better os)

Thanks for the info on how to download the software, I currently have a zip disk drive installed and have not tried to put the software onto it. I also have yet to install the cf card reader and do not know what version of software my MPC is running. My guess is that it is either 1.14 or an older version.

Edit: Found out the Version of my Software and it is 1.14, looks like I am going to stick with it.

well here is what you can do.. open up the bottom plate.. try plugging in the cf reader.. insert a cf card. power it on and see if you can access it in the disks menu. if that doesn't work, it means you need 1.20. if that is the case, you need to somehow use the zip drive (if it works still) to install 1.20 which means transferring the OS to the root of a disk and doing the process of booting the mpc to install the new os file.
