Well, just enjoy doing my own thing, no strings attached, no hoops to jump through - I don't want to lose that independence.

I hear ya on that one. I've been my own boss for a while – no way I'd change that for anything.

"We’ve spent most of this year quietly working on making it superawesome. I didn’t want to ruin the surprise."

That's all there is. That's his reply when I was asking for news.

thanks for asking on our behalf but ur question somewhat vague hence the response was vague.

if u tried a more direct approach a la " will v 2.0 be released in 2016"

Giving it a shot. We'll see. But I'm guessing it's nearly impossible to get any concrete info out of them as always.

good on you; but I feel they must have some indication as to when they expect to finish, and when they expect to release the software.

Surely, yes. Any organized team and project need to discuss those costantly, look at deadlines, roadmap, etc. It'st just Akai aren't saying much; many have tried.

They're dropping it next year...
Don't bother holding you're breath for a release this year. For a year's worth of waiting for a update I am very worried.
I really do hope they are doing some game changing shit because I never seen a company in my life move like this in this age of technology. The competition keeps advancing and Akai doesn't seem to even be bothered. The Ren had nothing but potential screaming out of it but the sketchy roll outs of updates, updates being very unstable at times and constant waiting fro shit to either be fixed or released. Four years and still no audio tracks, we just got track automation not too long ago too smh.. It's sad they had to do the Ren like this.

Audio tracks are still vital for me and the main reason i've had patience with Akai but at this point I need to see nothing but game changing shit once this update drops. The loyalty of myself and other MPC users should atleast be a source of motivation to atleast keep us satisfied with something in the meantime.
If someone were to tell me in 2012 that the REN/Studio will have audio tracks in 2017, as much as I like Akai, I definitely wouldn't have invested in the REN,Studio and Touch. It's worse enough they uhh kinda lied about the vintage mode back in the day when ppl eventually figured out that the "vintage sound" wasn't from no circuitry this or that but simply plugin effects. I'm still routing for them but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't let down.

I too wanted audio tracks. After waiting so long I started messing around with Ableton and haven't messed with my touch lately. But I have been using it as a plugin in Ableton.

Word on the street is that it will drop 2020. According to a very reliable source they´ve chosen that year for marketing purposes...

EDIT: Or maybe it was 3020...can´t remember...but it´s going to be superawesome, that´s for sure...
