Learning from the past

Just an observation that I wanted to share for all 4K users the Linn Drum is the virtual grandfather of all mpcs and it was used on countless hits in the 80's from soul, rock, pop and countless Prince records.

Roger Linn the creator of the Linn drum and its descendants the mpcs had a unique design and workflow process to how his creations worked even the choices of sounds he used which I believe anyone studied with help them in their operation of their unit especially the features and functions and how to use it.

I believe that observing how the Linn drum worked along with his first collaboration with Akai the mpc 60 will give first time mpc users more understanding of some of the parameters they might have been using on the mpcs. The man was before his time and thought of the workflow for every musician to use his units.

It is years later that I have come to this since in started working with retro gear. I have been working with classic hardware and reissues.

However the realization is that in order to go forward, it is equally important to know where you come from.

Some of the features of the MPC 60 are from the Forat 9000 which was the Linn 9000.
