If Akai keep adding 'DAW' features, won't the next generation of producers just start seeing the MPC as a basic, immature DAW compared to the established DAW's? NI and Ableton's large team of developers can probably copy any feature they want from the MPC Software (Maschine 2.46 'lazy chop' for example) and both Push and Maschine are already comparable in terms of hardware.

So what will be the MPCs 'unique' selling proposition moving forward? And even if they get one, how long before it gets copied and improved by the others?

The pads of my choice are 2kxl se1-se3 pads.

Specifically any of the ones that are mixed color.

They are THEE softest pads ever on any mpc.

Selling point moving forward would be 300% plausible, IF, they make an MPC4001.

All 4k features plus new ones that bring it up to current standards.

Sata hdd, touch screen or oled screen, more dense interior with small outside footprint, New Win/Mac compatibility, etc. Midi via USB or DIN, many other features needed to bring it completely up to par.

seems pointless what would the new 4k do that the ren does not?

Obviously having a stand alone would make them stand out and I do believe there is one coming. I don't care too much about stand alone other than the fact that it would let us do away with that awful plugin and let us track out old school style. Most importantly it would free our computer processing up to do all the mixing and vsts and not bog down the system with samples and sequencing. I think there are plenty of daws out there and the MPC needs to focus on what it does best. Sampling and sequencing. The do one thing well instead of lots of things mediocre mentality...

I don't have any major issues with my MPC Touch, but if I were new to this game...I'd roll with one of the other companies. They just seem to have more to offer.

I'm just stuck in my old ways having used MPC's for so long and preferring it's work flow.

I'm entertaining the thought of trying out Maschine Studio. As a Komplete user I like the way the two are integrated.

I'm also a Komplete owner. I'm thinking of switching to Ableton and Push 2 and adding the Audiomodder Bridge2 Komplete: http://www.audiomodder.com/collections/all/products/audiomodder-bridge-2-komplete-10-for-push

I've been reading the oppposite, Akai implements more customer and user feedback. I've seen complaints and myself included have seen more Push development for Live than DAW features.

I think Akai listening to these flash in the pan new guys is a mistake. They do not know much about engineering, producing, signal flow, even music theory.

I think Akai are in a really tight spot atm, TBH.

If you think about it…when they were leaders and when they were ruling the roost with their _actually_ iconic products, they were selling a lot of stuff to pros.
Those devices cost tons back then, and there were fewer options and competitors, and their products were damn superb (you really can't criticize the old stuff much in the then contemporary light, can you, and a lot of that gear is still in use for a reason).

Now, they're aiming at consumer/prosumer market, and there's loads options from competitors out there already, offering all the stuff that Akai are still playing catch up with (realtime timestretching, PDC, audio tracks, etc.).
It'll be damn hard for Akai to come out with 2.0 and be like "Waheyyy, look at realtime timestretch, audio tracks etc" as that won't impress anyone. It'll be like "OK, cool".

To really actually impress peeps, it has to hit real hard. Their only real advantage at this point is the overused marketing phrase, "iconic MPC workflow". That workflow is good, but probably enough only to the old die-hard MPC-only users. Will it be enough for Akai to create/maintain a sustainable product...I'm not sure.
The fact that they're coming up with belt-driven turntables and controllers stuff does tell a story: the MPC probably isn't selling like hotcakes anymore and money has to be made elsewhere. I think MPC more of a side product of theirs these days – and with it, I think they've lost the plot a bit, and I genuinely kind of feel bad for them at this point. Love the old stuff but feel a bit confused about them these days...dunno what to say, although I'd love to love them but can't.

One way to gain advantage in the field would be to create a superb standalone product that really just damn works. A proper workhorse. But if it's plasticky controllers whose software is always badly behind the game...it's hard to bring in new people like that.
