needle suggestions?

any suggestions for needles for samplin... i am using the shure 44/7 since ages, but right now i am thinking
to buy another pair that might suit a bit better, as the shure are more for turntablism...

so what do you use?

cheap and really clean sound are the 44Gs. they sound similar to a whitelabel, but they are the same form-factor as the 447s, and in my experience, do not hold up as well with heavy scratching.
the other bonus is you only need to buy the needles - they will fit into your 447 cartridge straight up, so its cheap to just try them out. they do sound very good, not too bass heavy, not too anything - just nice and flat.

on that note i like the whitelabels too, but they are more expensive and i think the 44Gs are a great alternative.

I used to have and use a pair of Shure M44-7 in late 80s' (I was in Japan, and Stanton 500 wasn't easy to purchase in Japan.)
I was a turntablist, so they were great for that. I don't think the sound quality is not that great though (M44 was made for juckboxes originally), but it tracks very well.

Then I had Stanton a pair of 500AL, because they were cheap, and it was very easy to get a replacement stylus. Again, the sound quality was decent, not bad, but not amazing.

Then I started to care about sound quality, and I bought Stanton 680EE.
It was a better cartridge than 500AL, but a proper replacement stylus was too pricy for me, and it become even more pricy since Stanton closed business.

Now I use a pair of Audio Technica AT3600 for mixing (so cheap, so capable, made in Japan. I wish I've know sooner. Sound quality is per to Stanton 500AL. DJ Q-Bert used to use them.) As far as cost performance is concerned, AT3600 is the best phono cartrige that I know of. Good for DJing too!

I also use Audio Technica AT-331LP (discontinued model) for so called "critical listening." I now use with cheaper stylus, which is for AT331EP, but the original needle was amazing; it was not Shibata, but with the extended high frequency response, I was able to listen more details, and stereo imaging was also amazing. Plus, probably because the fact that the stulus tip would trace deeper than cheaper stylus, it sounded clean too, with much less surface noise. stylue for AT331EP is also great too.

m44 user for years, got a new "listening" table with an ortofon om5e but i also got a new pre-amp so its hard to tell but

the new ortofon cart has much clearer highs, noise is so quiet.
against the m44 it lacks bass, but it definately has more definition. ive been told the 2M bronze needle is great, although this is for the M carts (rather than the OM)
