We'll see if that ever happens or if they just "move on" with a new product. Heard they left the 5000 sort of hanging, too (that's one of the few MPCs I've never used).
It's not bad actually. People say the last version had bugs, but couldn't say what it was.
I ran into something though, some of the synth parameters didn't have an effect. I'm not sure if it correlated with another synth parameter. I sold it after the midi sync was too terrible to work with.
When this new Akai bought out the Japanese Akai they pulled the plug on version 2 of the MPC 4000. I was told that it's possible to still work on the OS but a difference now is something like JJ OS is tied to the serial number of the machine itself. There's not much money in a developer adding to the 4000 with a business model like JJ OS. It would probably get pirated fast. Maybe a kickstarter campaign...
