it does seem to make really bad business sense........which is why I think there may be some truth behind it....

Yes people will obviously still be interested, but if you want to make the most of the announcement you would tend to do it when there's less noise so you have people's undivided attention.

Personally, I have little interest in new MPC hardware. I would prefer Akai offer the software as a separate purchase. Right now I am having fun with the iMPC Pro for iOS (now that it has reached 1.5 - and much better touch interface than MPC Touch) and just want the MPC desktop software for transferring ideas (hopefully back as well as forth).

If Akai were savvy, they would offer an upgrade path to rope in the iOS crowd to their Mac desktop. This is an opportunity even Maschine/iMaschine has dropped the ball about too.

Are there many others out there that have enough controllers lying around and just like simplicity that the MPC desktop offers (particularly considering the promised audio tracks of version 2.0)?

I hope the new mpc has a drive for my old floppy disks and lets me control my brand new akai belt drive turntable .

maybe they will announce before and drop on BF

or maybe they will announce on or after BF then drop it after BF

Yeah black Friday ain't the day the release something new with no prior announcement as it would get buried under (like others said) stock that needs to be got rid of.
Black Friday is about selling as much as possible. And it's usually really crappy things that have the massive discounts. I would laugh as people fight over generic rebranded TVs that are probably worse quality than the old TV they already have which is not broken. They just emptying space in warehouses.

This. LOL.

I actually don't think Black Friday is even the day to announce something. I would think a couple days before, before people blow their possible spending money on Black Friday deals. If the release is a few weeks after, they'll be tempted to save their money for the MPC instead.

I been following this thread and others for years and Im only now speaking up because im sick of akai "pro". This company is among the worst ive ever dealt with for a no of reasons. Im just mainly fed up as I fell for the false marketing about mpc touch and the "coming soon" 2.0. I know ill catch some heat and be told by a few that its "feeling entitled" to expect a company to conduct themselves with the same decency id expect from a store i buy from.
They havnt said one word for goin on a year, they cant even tell us whether touch buyers, (aka early adopters aka their most loyal customers)Whether we have to pay for upgrade, instead they make us think all kinds of sh,while suddenly cutting the cost of our expensive toy, we paid full price for with no explanation still. I been waiting on 2.0 barely using touch as its a useless gimmick to me without the touchscreen being able to show gui of vsts. I already had the mpc studio and so far this bs touch is a joke, & why include an audio interface if u cant use it(its tons o latency junk). Its obvious they are trying to now lower the price so they can charge touch buyers for an upgrade. What kind of company shows off a half done product in jan that turns a usable paperweight into the device people expect, tells everyone its coming soon, Then doesnt say one word for 11 mos, they might as well have not shown us anything. If something in jan. is coming "this year", then not one word is heard for 11 mos. That means it isnt coming "this year", thats basically "next year"

But their greedy scum! :x  :x And btw nothing ive bought from them has been fixed enough to call it "pro".

thats ur own fault; if ur easily taken in by marketing

again sorry to say but u r at fault here; because they have clearly stated that it would be a paid upgrade; so u could made the choice to delay purchasing until 2.0 dropped.

Also buying the touch does not equate to being one of the most loyal customers. and as u know prices change all the time, so u cant be angry at that.

many people r using the touch as is; the vst on the touch screen was not the major sell point of the product; so it sounds like u just brought it off hype without researching the product, again thats ur fault cos no one forced u to buy early.
