Mastering

Is it possible to Master a track within the MPC software, i.e you dont have to transfer to a DAW,if so could anyone recommend a good mastering plug in?

You could do either, depends on a project you are working on really....MPC Ren doesn't work well with audio tracks, like vocals. If I have vocals I must export to a DAW, otherwise I'm trying to keep within MPC but making a track or mastering with MPC isn't always easy or possible...

you can also use software like wavelab.. or if you are on mac you can do it in logic or pro tools.. or get izotope like that guy suggested.

A bit of an assumption here, I take it you don't have vocals on the track. You would like to turn the volume up on the beat?

None of those other DAW's will be as featured as Wavelab or Sadie for mastering.

If your looking for some tools, try DMG Equilbrium and Limitless.

Mastering is all about your plugin chain. The software can support any vst so its very possible to master with the mpc software. I wouldn't use the stock plugins but its possible. a few compressors, an eq on the master track will get you started. Make sure to export your whole track and then master the stereo mix with a good amount of plugins. Make sure you get a decent compressor, eq, limiter, exciter and maybe some tape saturation.

I do have vocals on the track,and I have finished the mix and exported the song to a wav file,however,there was no point in the MPC software process that I could run the whole track in song mode through a compressor or any other mastering plugin,presumably you have to apply the process to the program and then Instrument plugins individually,or.......
Can I buy a plugin that I can run my finished wav file mix down through,so I can get that more glued together punchy professional sound?

BTW,I don't have any other DAW software,doing everything through the MPC,or at least trying to!

A. reimport your whole song as a sample and process or use the master fader. The master fader is in the mix section. The master fader is the stereo output for the whole track so it process anything that is coming out of the mpc

It doesn't compare to a mastering program.

There is no short answer for how to master or how to mix.

Having to start the audio from the beginning every time would have to be pain though. We need audio tracks.

I think the 2.0 software is supposed to come with the Air instruments plugins that come with ProTools. There is a "mastering suite" included.

Convert the song to a new sequence in song mode. Select that sequence and then apply effects to master channel. Don't have to keep moving between screens now.

I generally do this once I've got the bulk of the tune done and then have a more linear edit approach for final tweaks in arrangement. I then export stems to wax to mix and self 'master' in a daw but you can do it all in mpc if you want.

Just discovered I can add plugin to master and then when In song Mode I can switch between screens to access the plugin!
Will now have to be more careful when assigning tracks so I can convert whole song to one sequence and not have to switch screens. Thanks for everyone's input

Mastering is, in most cases, way more than one plugin.
However, if you have to name one plugin for the job, that'd be Izotope Ozone.

Mixing and mastering is my job, btw, so anyone needing that, holler. I work with all genres, but bass music and hip hop are my field of expertise.
