I don't think the MPC line is going to fade.

I think Akai have got to come big and heavy with the next MPC or they will haemorrhage punters.....

Its got to look classy and deliver on all counts....its got to be everything the Touch wasn't....

i think the touch was pretty well received; most people who were skeptical became converts after use; an also the alternatives are not plentiful, maschine has the same developer issues, that leaves only abelton.

I liked the look of the touch it was slick, the main complaint people had was that it was not standalone but thats a minor issue

Actually, check the forums for Ableton Push 2. Lots of complaints there too.

Grass is always greener for many people. There's always going to be people complaining, even if Akai come out with a standalone it's going to get trashed because it's too expensive or runs a relatively basic OS (compared to the MPC Software), or doesn't have x, y or z feature. People won't be happy with 2.0 as the audio track features won't compare to the ones in their favourite DAW, and so on and so forth. I have no doubt that there's an Ableton forum just like this one full of people roasting Push 2 and accusing Ableton of being cornballs.

But ultimately it's the complaints ('customer feedback'....) along with healthy competition that keep these companies on their toes, and hopefully leads to more innovation in the market as a whole.

i dont think none of the companies are on they toes; but abelton have gained most from the issues with akai and NI.

but I think we need more options in groovebox/sample workstation market.

Ableton are leading the pack IMHO.

What's great about them as a company is that they always look way beyond their products. If you take a look at all the stuff they provide to their users via their blog, for example.
Just got back from Berlin; was attending Loop...damn it was great and inspirational. Big ups to Ableton.

I would love for ableton to make a push mini; with 16 pads, keep the touch strip, keep the screen, for less than £400 as dat shit would sell like hot cakes

I'm a Reaper user but what I've seen from all other DAWs I would definately agree to this.

Reaper is cool but I think Studio one is better imo
