I'm only going by the track record of nuakai. That's why I'll be waiting a full year or so before buying one of these things if at all. I was in the process of making my own standalone unit because I thought something like this was never going to happen. I'll continue work on mine an see what this one amounts to.

Price point in my opinion will have it up with the Toraiz at the $1,999 mark.

:vomit: at $2000

the price is meant to be about $899; the new flagship at winter namm; I'd expect that to be $1,499 or more.

$899 sounds more like it. They have to keep it under 1k for a lot of people to consider buying. Especially when you have other alternatives like maschine and push.

I'm hoping that they they've re-worked the backend of the entire MPC Software to automatically 'adapt' it's features when running in standalone mode (e.g. options for VSTs automatically disappears, file browser switches to internal disk options only etc etc) - that woud seem to make more sense than have them running two separate versions.

Price point in my opinion will have it up with the Toraiz at the $1,999 mark.

Not a chance. Can't see this costing more than $999, and if the Guitar Center guy is to be believed, it's going to be $899. If you are willing to wait a few months you'll probably get it for $699 although by then I suspect we'll be looking at a separate $1500 machine as well.

That seems more reasonable, if they have another one coming then I can see that. But I can't see it being the same price as the original touch with the standalone functionality, I could be wrong. I hope it's not outrageous that's for sure.

From the internal photos. Looks like the 2gb Ram is a card that you can swap out, wonder if it can be upgraded to more?

Speculation is awesome.

Question is, when the Touch returns to $799 (1st Jan 2017 according to Akai homepage), who the hell is going to buy the Touch when you can get the standalone version for $200 more? Seems to make the Touch appear somewhat of an 'interim' model, destined for the 'mpc fly' and element recycle bin. Perhaps this is why they have used the same top chassis design for the Live?

Or of course, that could suggest that the MPC Live is going to cost more than $900. If it were $1500, I can't see too many people buying it. In the UK that would be nearly £1500 inc VAT, three times the price of a Touch.

I can't see it being lower than £1000. 'Similar' products (Toraiz, Octatrack etc) are over a grand.

I talked to a retailer guy who goes to NAMM and all the shows and talks to companies etc., and he said he got the impression/info that Akai were planning to make the standalone touch version happen for NAMM 2016 but ran out of time, so that may be why the Touch came out as a controller and not a standalone, and we didn't get the standalone one until now.

Yes I think that's a very fair assumption to make - I certainly would have skipped the Touch if they'd released both of these simultaneously. I can't see the point of having both of these on the market now (unless the Live costs silly money). Now we can see why the Touch is currently on $200 sale - perhaps on Jan 1st they stop selling it entirely.

Maybe Akai will offer a trade in program for Touch owners. :vomit:

I will be more pessimistic :D but what if it's only old prototype unit photos - maybe they tried to make a standalone unit, but they ended up making only Touch as a controller and that's it. And all these photos just started to circulate now as that one of standalone Renaissance before :)

What if I told you that the difference between the Touch and the Live was the firmware on the fpga?
