Is the top FX slot first, or the bottom?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm trying to figure out if the FX slots on a track channel (or any other place you can put FX) goes from top to bottom, or bottom to top. In other words, say I wanted to put an EQ before a compressor on a track, should the EQ go above or below the compressor? So the signal flow, so to speak would go: sound->EQ->compressor->submix. Does the sound hit the top FX slot first, or the bottom?
The bottom one being first in line, then going up, would be my guess, but I'm not sure. Any insight is highly appreciated. Thank you.
