Hello everybody !

I got my first MPC 1000 about a week and a half ago. It's running 2XL and so far so good. I've managed to create my beats, chop samples, sequence some external gear using an external midi keyboard, etc.

But I've a question regarding a specific kind of midi controlling though.

When I load a sample and turn 16 levels on, how can I manage to play that sample chromatically from my MIDI keyboard (in this case an electribe sampler, love the scale mode) ? Is it even possible?

THANKS a lot :worthy: :worthy:

Nope, I believe 16 levels is specially for pads. You can of course create an instrument program (INST) from your sample and use your keyboard to play that (just assign the sample keygroup to run from pad A01 to pad 16 - remember to set a suitable root note). Or you can manually assign the sample to 16 pads in a standard DRUM program and adjust the tuning in +/-10 increments , this will mimic 16 levels but give you the keyboard control.

I cover all these techniques in great detail in my JJOSXL book:

Hey thanks. Yeah I was wondering if there was a quicker easier way. I'm considering buying your book ! How's the information on sequencing external gear and hooking it up to other boxes ? You see I make sample based House but y also sometimes sequence other synths.
