MPC Live + MPC X: new standalone touchscreen MPCs?

Last year, the touch was leaked by a U.K. Retailer and Guitar Center.

I don't get why so many people have such a hard on for a new stand alone MPC...

I have 2000XL and 1000 with JJOs2XL and while I love them joints to death, the tracking out of them into a DAW was/is hella tedious..

Once I got the MPC Touch, I'm like "mannnnnn, i'm gucci, bruh!! Just what I been wanting!"

Can do everything AND MORE in that Touch than I could in the 2000 or 1000 AND I can drag and drop into logic and keep it moving?!

But the whole "it's a standalone" argument for the MPC Live just doesn't register with me.

Touch works just fine and my beats are sounding good as ever, so i'm good.

If anything, my next move equipment-wise will be Ableton Live 10 and Push once they finally release Live 10.

If they don't soon, I'll just get Live 9 and Push and keep it pushin...

I felt EXACTLY the same way, and got into some nasty beef w/ the standalone camp.

Know what I discovered? I get 10x the amount of stuff done on the OP-1 than on 1.9 and the Touch. Even though the OP's limitations are huge vs. the software / controller arena. I love the Touch, but when you master a standalone device, you develop a knack for creative alternatives and tactics to achieve something that a plug-in would handle w/ ease. But you can achieve a level of virtuosity on a "walled garden" like an old MP or the OP-1. There are no "masters" of the 12-neck guitar. Kinda like how Chess will always be greater than "Final Fantasy Tactics" or whatever. Limited tools, unlimited possibilities.

On top of that, I can do it in my CAR at lunch, or in the couch after dinner. Some of the best moments happen where your setup isn't.

Because of that, I'll be grabbing the "Live", if and when it drops.

I'm with ya on that for the most part. Always felt like the standalone crowd was being nostalgic. But... the Live is gonna be a Touch with standalone capabilities (from what I can tell), so in all honesty, with the somewhat unfinished nature of the Touch, I kinda wish I would've waited. I would definitely have paid a few extra bills to have the standalone option. It'll be nice to disconnect and still work on some drums or samples, though I'm not so sure how it's gonna handle VSTs. Other than that though, I have way too much stuff I need on my computer, and I'd never track anything I cared about through the interface that's on the Touch. I also need a legit DAW, and MPC is far from that. In 2016/17, there's no way I would pump a track out of MPC and call it finished when I have Ableton and Logic at my fingertips. Standalone is a nice feature; definitely not a necessity these days. Pretty sick you should be able to hook up a hard drive to it tho.

Of course it is inevitable - "too heavy", "too expensive", "battery doesn't last long enough", "screen too small", "not enough buttons", etc.

look how light a phone is; there are phones with 4GB and deca core processors and light lith-ion batteries.

so given how much power can be squeezed into one chip there is no reason why this live could not be light weight.

Gotta agree with jpeg for probably the first time ever.

The design seems lazy and uninspired. For live use I'd want a tilt screen as a basic requirement, and those cheese grater sides are asking for trouble.

Hopefully the final design is a bit nicer.

Tilt screen? Its roughly the same form factor as the 500/1000 though. Due to the size of it compared with the Ren or larger standalone MPCs there is no need for the tilt screen IMO as the screen is right there instead of being further away where you would need the tilt to be able to see it.... unless you have really long arms.

People will ALWAYS complain: some (like me) will say today's devices are often too light, plasticky, and flimsy and they should be heavier and more robust to feel, erm, respectable, and some no-muscle nerds will say they're too heavy! I recall hearing and reading online when Push 2 came out, some people said it's way too heavy, and I was like, what the heck, guys...maybe some of you need to work out and ya'll couldn't even move let alone pick up an old MPC such as the 4000

No it's not. It's nothing like the form factor of the 500/1000.

A tilt screen would aid live performance where lights and reflections come into play. It's not rocket science, but to Akai it apparently is.

Old MPCs might have been tedious to intergrate with DAWs in the old days, but thats the point of MPC Live and any new stand alone MPC that may come in the future, for fluid intergration with hardware and software without all the middlemanning bullshit with MIDI.

For anything, this is the game changer that the Ren should've been from the get-go.

I think the MPC Legacy sounds more like the traditional MPC form factor; but if the MPC is portable for live use u dont want it being to heave but I get at the same time you want it to feel like a substantial piece of kit and not just an empty box.
