need help with a sampling problem

hey was up i just bought bought mpc2000xl and had it for about three days now i just started learning how to sample by reading the tutorial but my samples are recording real low and there is lots of noise in the background also my level meter is not rising real high even if i have my stereo all the way up i tried adjusting the rec gain and everything im real stuck with this any help would be appreciated

Have you tried turning down your stereo and turning up the record gain.

I usually record sounds into my computer make waves and chop them in cool edit save them and load them into my MPC2000xl via CD rom. I have also sampled DVD's from my computer's soundcard straight into the MPC via 1/4 inch plugs. I have also sampled into the MPC using a stereo like you. You name it I have done it. I'm still trully no novice though.

so how do you record sound into your computer with turntables and i only have a zip drive on my mpc not a computer so should i get a cd rom drive for my mpc too??

I would record my voice into cubase, sonar....etc. I would export it as a wave. Then edit it in a wave editor and save it to the hard drive to burn to disc. I have also used zips...it's just that I no longer use them...that's all. The MPC can read a IBM formatted zip disk... just pop the zip in your somputer and save the wav to it. Load the wav in the MPC and the rest is history. Just make sure it's a IBM formated zip disk. Just have one just for transpoting waves that's how I did it.

The way you are doing it's fine to, but you can consider ripping waves from CD's, chopping them in a wav editor, and saving them to a zip to toss in the MPC... that's the only way I do it now.

I've heard that albums can have a higher clarity than CD's but who give a f***. It all sounds the same to me.

cool so where would i be able to download cool edit i think that sounds like a a good idea to edit my samples in the computer then transfer them to the mpc..so would i have to get a zip drive for my computer as well??

You need to buy a zip drive only if your samples get to big to fit on a floppy cause you can use floppies too.

How is your stereo hooked up to your MPC? If you have the L/R out from the reciever hooked up to the L/R 1/4inch jacks, then turing up the volume won't do a da<i></i>mn thing. Go to Guitar Center and get a stereo 1/4inch to Left and Right 1/4inch splitter cable. It's like 8 bucks. Just make sure it's one that splits the stereo and not just outputs the same signal to the left and right. The salesman will know what you mean. Plug that bad boy into the headphone jack on your stereo, and you're golden. That's how I sample off my cd's, cuz that way you can use the equalizer on your stereo to alter the sample and sh<i></i>it. Hope that helps.
