MPC Touch opinions - before I buy it

Sup fam.

I think last time I've been here was like 7-8 years ago. I switched from samples mostly into keyboard stuff over this time and I must say it's kind of challenging still to make your own "samples". As an effect my MPC4K is almost exclusively used to make drum patterns.

I wanted to try more of combined approach so I could use sampled drums and plug-in drums. I know it's possible, but this kind of workflow kills my creativity and it makes me kind of sad that this big box is only used for drums. I even thought about selling it so someone would make a proper use out of it.

I looked into NI Maschine and I almost ordered it, but then I stumbled across MPC Touch. Now I'm really torn, because I can't really say many good things about the build quality of Akai newer products, but it has not been terrible as well. I never liked the sound of the newer MPCs starting from 1000 and up, but from what I understand it will be the Sound Interface that processes the drums (pls someone enlighten me on this one). Now the final thing is I just can't stop thinking about this touch screen and what it could do for me. It seems like an amazing idea, since I'm always messing with some velocities etc.

I'm pretty much set on MPC Touch even though I don't put too much faith in their software, but hell I managed to work on Aksys for couple of years. I just need to hear some opinions and how it compares to NI Maschine since that's something I can grab too.

Don't buy anything, Namm is 3 weeks away.

Akai Pro's site is down right now but you can download them demo software and do some chopping and play the pads with the pc keyboard. The demo does time out after 10 mins, but you can save and open projects on it.

The Touch is pretty good, to be honest. I have it.
However, there will be a software update "soon" as well as two new devices coming, so you may want to wait till January NAMM announcement, and hopefully all the new product will be available after that.
Anyways, if you get the Touch now, it's a decent purchase.

I never learned to like Maschine that much as I've always messed with the Akai type of workflow. If you're familiar with that, you should be good.
I always hated the pattern-basedness with Maschine.

It will be hard to top it in my eyes though, I have very specific vision on what I wanna do with this thing and touchscreen seems amazing for that. Then again I wouldn't be surprised, if they introduced a new MPC with touchscreen like ren2 or something completely new.

Btw. I keep hearing about this new software update to 2.0 and some people make it seems like it won't be free, anybody knows the answer?

There's plenty of info about the touchscreen 'ren2' (MPC X) and the standalone version of the Touch (MPC Live), so checkout viewtopic.php?f=36&t=181364

MPC 2.0 is allegedly going to be free for anyone buying a new MPC in the past 12 months, although 12 months from 'when' is unclear. I would assume it's measured from the eventual release date of 2.0, so clock is ticking for early MPC Touch adopters, and probably already over for most Ren and silver Studio owners.

So past few days I've been looking around reading reviews and stuff and I decided I'm gonna go with MPC Touch. Now only this whole NAMM thing makes me stop, but I'm growing impatient each day since I've basically had to rebuild my rig a month ago because my old computer fried and now I got to wait another month for maybe they announce something and then I'll have to wait even more.

I'm not really interested in MPC Live or MPC X since I'm not really willing to spend more than 1000$. So simply put: what can I miss, if I purchase MPC Touch today vs if I purchase it after NAMM?

Hope they don't discontinue MPC Touch because for me it's a bit different to MPC Live, both machines seem great, but for example I'd prefer Touch over Live simply because it still does everything I expect it to do and is smaller (size matters guys), a bit cheaper and I don't care for standalone/live capabilities. On top of that I feel like MPC Touch is not gonna get dated so fast. So once again I hope they keep it in production.

I dont follow the logic that the Touch will be discontinued; consider the MPC Studio was the best seller; more so than the Ren, so you would assume Akai know that the low end of the market moves more units, while the expensive pro units sell less.

Also, is there a _confirmed_ rumor that the new models will come out around NAMM?
I don't think so. So you might end up waiting for a while.

I'd say free 2.0 is my only concern right now. This "coming soon" is like from game companies. 2-3 years to get your update.

No way the market will support The Studio, Touch, Live, and X at the same time.

The Renaissance, Element, and Silver Studio are all discontinued. Depending on the Live's price, it will most likely take over the Touch's place eventually.

So you have the mk2 studio, live, and X low, mid, and high end models. All speculation by me of course.
