Two new mpc's and MPC v2.0; I don't see any reason for a white MPC studio, as the current trend is all black

I would think it's too early at this point perhaps the week before, but often he may just pop up and ask if there are any questions.

But I'm sure most questions will become redundant come NAMM

What will be the difference in specs and the difference on I/O for the MPC Live and the MPCX? People will not pay a lot more for only a other form factor. So there have to be a difference between the specs of those new machines.

Windows embedded or Linux?
In the pass a lot of Numark CD/USB players were programmed with Linux. But 2 years ago Windows was showing a MPC prototype on Windows embedded. As users of the new MPC machines we will not direct notice whats it's running on. For VST use I think it will be Windows.

Screen difference
I think the MPC Live has the same 7" screen as the Touch. This screen is not so good on response. So Akai can keep the price better. I hope the MPCX will have a screen that have a better response.

This is mine idea about "Live" and "X"
Display size: 7" <~> 10"
Memory ram: 2gb <~> 4gb
On board storage: 16gb <~> 32gb

MPC V2.0 controller: Live and X

The MPC Live also acts as a controller for MPC V2.0. Is Akai saying here that it's only running MPC V2.0 when you use it as a controller with a computer. So the program in the MPC Live standalone will be a strip down version. So it is not a real production tool on the go. But a Live machine for DJ's a likes.

As already emntioned in this topic, Dan has categorically stated that the Live is not running Windows, so it's pretty much guaranteed to be running Linux. The assumption is that while in standalone mode, third party plugins will not be available. With regards to the screen, I wouldn't hold your breath that the X will have an extra-responsive screen compared to the Live - more likely it will have an identical spec screen, just larger.

Akai have been understandably/unsurprisingly quiet on the details so far.

The general consensus is that standalone won't work with 3rd party vsts etc and be more in the vein of traditional MPC until you decide connect it to a computer. I'd expect the live to definitely be like that based on the processor that was uncovered by the 'FCC leak' a while back. It will have the internal effects but 3rd party stuff wont be compatible.

It could be that the X is fully standalone if it runs a version of windows, but if that is the case I expect the price to be pretty high for it. Just how much of a flagship it will be? We can only wait and hope it does get released at some point.

Part of the less-than-stellar performance of the Touch screen, I believe, is related to latency between the host PC and the controller, via USB. Any time you mirror to another device, it's bound to contribute to lag.

I would expect better performance from a standalone.

I don't think that the screen response have anything to do with the latency between host pc via usb. It's all about the quality of the screen. Cheap tablets have a other way of working that results in bad response on the screen with your fingers. So i still hope Akai use better touchscreen technology on the new machines. Otherwise it will be almost impossible to work with these machines in standalone mode.

I'd agree, if the Touch was running the GUI natively, but it requires you to put your host machine into "screen mirroring" mode, which, historically, has been a process rife w/ latency. Not the kind that would interrupt basic workflow, but certainly becomes noticeable in this arena.

Just signed up here after reading this thread and looking at a few older standalone MPC's. A little disappointed there isn't as much enthusiasm for a standalone unit, as there is a (still very small) growing trend of old and new school guys going to hardware systems where the PC or MAC and DAW is just a recording device and used for final masters. I'm pretty excited myself to see another standalone unit.

I was holding back on a Squarp Pyramid 64 track sequencer to see if Akai will bring out something by January 2017. I've never owned an MPC, but my centerpiece for the last two years is a maxxed out and skinned MV8800. I was an Ableton live user for ten years and got tired of controllers and wanted hands on again. Back before Live I was experimenting with Cubasis, then Acid Pro + Fruity Loops, I found Ableton at version 4 when vst support was introduced and stuck with it until right before 9 release. Before all that I had an SU700 sampler, mc303, Korg EX800, and a Quasimidi Polymorph for synths. Many hours spent with my SU700 hooked up to my cable box audio outs grabbing samples.

So the move the last two years has been to bring it back to hardware for me. I have several midi thru boxes for additional midi outs connected to the two midi outs on the mv8800. So far I have a Virus Ti2, Minibrute, a modular with all blue lantern modules, 3x Moog Mother 32's, a Waldorf Blofeld, Roland JV1010, and my master keboard is a 49 key Novation KS4 as it has a nice keybed with good aftertouch.

I bought a lot of used stuff and some new, but recent aquisitions of SammichSID synth, Soulsby Atmegatron, Roland JX-03, Novation Circuit, and a whopping deal on a used Virus Ti, plus my stuff lying around not hooked up like an RM1x, SH-32 synth, old mc303 (not the same one as in the 90's I had, but nostalgia got the better of me) has me wanting a second setup, but slimmed down and something I can take to my buddy's studio to collaborate, so I was looking at the Pyramid sequncer to pair with two of my synths as a portable setup. I think a standalone mpc would be awesome. Workflow on my mv8800 is about the best midi implementation I've ever used. Even better than Geist which I let loose a couple midi maps for use in Ableton and one as standalone using a Korg PadKontrol. Still available on Geist forum I think, but the mv8800 is a little slow on sample preview. Extremely efficient in RAM use though for 512mb and the 160gb drive has 70gb of samples I've been collecting for the last 16 years.

This really is my hope that Akai puts out something without the PC tether that works for gearheads like me that don't use a DAW or PC

My two 12 channel mixers are setup so one is a sub mixer and master output can easily route to my Focusrite 2i2 and then to my iPad Air 2 running Meteor multitrack app to final mix it. Not opposed to running Ableton again for mastering, but the PC needs to be something I hook up as final recording only.

Its not just the more blinky lights that appeals to me in hardware either. Haha. I fell in love with sound design years ago and prefer my synths to have that mental connection of me knowing that I actually am comnecting hands to gear without a usb tether. Archaic I know, but it really works for me.

I think the new one besides Live is called the Eclipse? Anyway, I'm anxiously awaiting the release of these. If they hold off too long, I'm gonna get a maxxed out MPC 1000 or 2500 and see what happens with it sequencing a couple synths for a portable setup.

That long post was pointless, no one cares what u intend to buy, if u had simply read a few posts on this forum, it would of clarified many things for u.

But for some reason u chose to post ur confusion.

as mentioned simply reading posts would of answer ed many of ur questions for instance u made reference to the MPC Eclipse but that misnomer was debunked many posts ago

No big deal ,but it makes u seem clueless when u come to the table with basic, old info that has already been addressed

Is this the way we treat newcomers..?? :Sigh: Instead of giving him a warm welcome to the forums you be acting like that. No one is forcing you to read his post.

To me his post is more like an introduction of himself and what gear he uses, what gear he has used and what he would like to see. Nothing wrong with that.

Anyway welcome to the MPC forum Wormhelmet
