Then we should be good then, if the MV only has 512mb not even gig, then one shouldn't worry cause 2 gigs is definitely more than 512 mb.

No worries. Nice!

yeah you know how limited 512mb can be when working with audio tracks. For samples yeah that more than enough, I dont think people understand adding audio tracks and making it full blown hardware daw is going to need a lot kore Ram especially working with high quality format files like Wavs. Lol anyone get wat im saying?

I mean yeah you can have 8 audio tracks on the MV but youll be lucky if you dont hit that 512mb limit, I cant imagine doing a beat and a protools like session all in one when theres 2gb Ram. for the mpc software, protools, or any other daw you need at least a free 4-8 gb of Ram space on your computer to have multiple tracks running smoothly with plugins n all those samples

again... on the MV and previous MPCs... that ram was dedicated TO SAMPLE TIME ONLY... the MV 512mb was just for sample and audio tracks.... the 2500 had 128mb for samples....

those machines had an OS that did NOT cut into that 512 or 128... you had that full amount just for recording audio.

saying "2gb is okay" means NOTHING unless you know how the system will use the ram... why is it that in 2017, 2gb of ram is not enough for your music computer? because that 2gb will not be dedicated to JUST the samples within the daw... your OS, the services running in the background, the DAW, etc.. all that will be running and loaded into that ram.

2 gigs of system ram has not been enough since the year 2000. HOWEVER... 2 gigs of dedicated sample time is not terrible. PLUS, who knows if the new MPCs will stream audio tracks to the memory card or hard drive.... you need to know how the system is set up to know if a spec figure is good enough. remember, you can record multiple hours on an SP-303 with a 64 mb smart media card inserted.

One of the questions I added to Saint Joes NAMM-list is about the RAM: How much of the 2GB RAM is used by the underlying OS and the software?

Currently the MPC-software takes around 200 MB of RAM on my PC without a project loaded and playing anything. No idea what the OS (probably Linux) will take away from the overall 2 GB.

The system requirements for the Touch say 4 GB RAM / 8 GB recommended. That's of course including the synths and vsts which will not run on the X or Live.

So the question is, what's really left to work with RAM-wise...?

If they can have me recordig/playing multiple tracks of audio w vocals andd more instrument tracks on the hardware mpc alongside my beat and all the samples then its all good, im sold as long as its not buggy, and prob will wait that 6 months for them to cut the price by 50% lmao

I don't think it is going to be an issue, look at how long they've been testing thing. They started producing it 3 years ago.
All those years, they must have hit the limit in the earlier stages until they found a sweet point and added a little bit extra.

Maybe the started out with 512mb and ended up with 2 Gigs.

I started on Cubasis in 2000 with 8 audio tracks on a Win 98 machine and had plenty of spare juice even after 8 tracks and plugin fx. I think I had a whole 1gb on that machine. My Gotharman Little DeFormer 2 sampler is the expanded version and I think only has 512mb per bank. Two banks (A and B) and 100 min sampling time on each bank.

yeah right... but on the MV and previous standalone MPCs... that ram was dedicated strictly to sample time and sequences etc.. user added stuff.

I think these new MPCs aren't set up that way.

The RAM was dedicated to the project. Not just sample time and sequences. The project could also contain up to 8 audio tracks. As I stated, Cubasis did 8 audio tracks easy on Win 98 with 1gb RAM.

If you are gonna record Monks droning for an hour straight, sure, you might run into limitations, but a 3 - 6 minute song with vocakl tracks and rendered audio from vst's in the count of 8 tracks, should not be an issue unless, as i stated, it is not coded very well.

I disagree wholeheartedly about MV RAM use and what was capable in 2000 with a modest system on PC. RAM is dedicated to PROJECT on the MV including Audio tracks up to 8. (edit - I see you did state that for MV was sample and audio - my bad)

Still it is a lot of RAM for a sampler compared to other samplers. I have no idea if it is ok or not because we need to see efficiency in action. I never said it was ok, just that it was alot for a sampler and we have yet to see if they code right or not.

Doing multiple audio only tracks in a DAW was good for more than 8 tracks with 2gb RAM. My 2000 DAW had 1gb and did 8 fine.

Yes I wholeheartedly agree that the OS and DAW software needs to be coded to use RAM efficiently and your mileage may vary depending on efficiency of code on the device.

The point is that we don't know if it uses RAM for OS also. Also don't know efficiency of coding. I did think I read in that 20 page pdf Fanu posted that it has the ability to stream from disk or SD card.

I just think it premature to freak out about 2gb RAM when we don't really know how it will take advantage of that RAM and that there are no other samplers on the market using that much that are getting a huge buzz about how awesome 2gb is or how junk 2gb is. Maybe we should find one and speculate. Will just be speculation though.

Not entirely directed at mr_debauch and not meaning to single out your post. My original statement was in response to the original concern that 2gb would not nearly be enough.

Personally the 2 GB would not be a problem for me at all. I can even have some fun on a korg volca sample with only 4 megabyte of sampling time...

My question is directed mainly at the upcoming updates. How much more features can 2 GB of RAM handle? At the moment I'm mainly interested in the technical aspects of the Live and X compared to other samplers.

On the other hand I thought the question might be interesting for those who heavily rely on effects and other things that might quickly eat up the RAM.

Personally I am definitely not worried about 2gig of Ram. I don't plan on doing vocals and whole songs on that thing. That's what my DAW is for. I am going to do complexed drums and melodies and export them out so I can then rock out in the DAW.

I know nothing about the MV and don't care to. the MPC X just needs to work that's all.

512 RAM on the MV gave you an hour of sample/recording time. Thats plenty to play with. Plus you not limited to the 512 RAM, you can directly record a stereo two track straight to its harddrive of 40GB. The RAM is also workspace like the MPCs where you work on samples and tracks and can save them to a zip or CD.

I was just about to go to sleep and took another look at tis picture and I have noticed that there is an battery icon in the top right of the display. It could be that they've photoshoped an image of the live in there or what else could it be?

Edit: never mind, I've just rewatched the 2 videos and there is no battery icon in grid edit mode.

I think something resembling that can be seen in the NAMM video that just got posted.

Just watched the introduction to 'Mpc live and X' video. That video shows some sort of memory icon. What video did you see..??
