You load the project into ram and play it from there. What could be faster than that? The device won't have to access an external storage media.

3 videos of Andy squirming through virtually every question. Their NAMM appearance seems a bit shambolic, which makes you wonder what's going on behind the scenes...

Andy mentioned the new qlink functions will be much improved. Will the Ren also benefit from this with the 2.0 update? And what about automatic mapping qlinks to vst controls? I wonder if we can use a Live in conjunction with the Ren.

streaming from usb or sd acts as extended ram cos its just as quick to access the data and u dont have use time loading any sample from storage to ram before u can use the sample

the software is still being developed for the computer hence no laptop showing mpc 2.0; thats the assumption, although last yer Dan had a laptop with a mock up of 2.0

Pete said the software wasn't done yet, and their presence at NAMM reflects that - no laptop showing 2.0, and Andy doing very limited demos of the same capabilities. I personally don't think that's a bad sign - they already told us it wasn't done before NAMM even started. I don't see why people are upset that they didn't highlight it there. Based on many new product announcements at NAMM, an estimated release of 2-3 months after NAMM is actually pretty respectable. If the new units weren't available for pre-ordered I'd have a different opinion. But all signs point to a product that is at least coming along. Hopefully it's tight when it's released.

I've been critical of them in the past, but in this case I actually think they handled NAMM pretty well.

I think a few people where disappointed because Akai said that 2.0 was going to be released in May of 2016 so they are a little late.

My thing is, how do you not know if the ram is upgradable or not, what does that have to do with the software?

Unless the board design has changed from the FCC pictures, the ram will not be upgradeable through conventional means you're all used to.

The ram is surface mount soldered, so if you know someone that has the skill set to do the job then that could work. And considering the hardware underneath is an Arm based setup (think of the same hardware used in cell phones, routers, android boxes, etc)- so a variant of Linux under the hood is almost certain, the base operating system should detect the change in memory. The only question being is if the Akai OS will be able to map to that ram and have it function properly.

Now about the 2GB nand flash - It can be upgraded. But it would require hardware level expertise as above. Nand memory can be dumped, flashed to a new module and resoldered. There may be tweaks required to make the partition table compatible with however Akai has theirs configured.

Yeah I can understand that. I was one of the people that was critical when they went dark over the past year.

Good video's, thanks for asking some more indepth questions. Im a bit worried about the 2gb ram. If you run 8 audiotracks in 24 bit for lets say a liveset of an hour your maxing out that heavilly. I really hope they will make streaming from the ssd or ssd sata possible in the future to make them honour their promise it wont be a problem.
It still didnt stop me for pre-ordering a mpc live though, but i hope for more information on this issue from AKAI
