Im trying to stretchy head around what your saying. and no matter the angle. all i get is a kinked neck..
please elaborate.

I'm going to keep it simple, as I explained. The MPC Stand alone has a better sequencer than the DAW/computer, period! I never when I had the 2000xl had to fix the midi notes when I banged out on it. When I do complexed drums the midi notes don't fall on the one! If I do a regular one two three four drum pattern yes, but not when I do some complex drums. Even when I put the quantize on, or on 1/64 or unquantize.

the MPC stand alones sequencer is better.

ok if i think i know what your saying is. the old mpc have better sequencers... and you feel that these new stand alone will be same?

Yes reason being its not dealing with a DAW sequencer. MPCs sequencer always been tight and thsts one of the reasons people want a standalone. Im not goung to use the 2.0 at all. I will majw my drums export them out of tbe MPCx via my computer into my DAW. Ive already seen it demoed a many videos and the sequencer was tight. Why would you think it wouldnt tight like that of old?

Also the other options the X will ad a standalone.

I understand what you're saying. It isn't the sequencer or it's timing that you're taking about. It's latency. When you play standalone there is almost zero latency. The pad is hit and boom the sample is triggered instantly. The timing is all right there.

When you go through a DAW, you have latency from the controller to the computer and then back out from the DAW to the sound interface. That latency is what doesn't make your timing feel as tight and why notes end up out of place when recording. Your timing is tight but the latency makes it feel like the sequencer isn't right.

You're right, standalone eliminates the latency and makes the sound and timing tighter. The sequencer itself is fine, but latency getting notes into the sequencer is the problem when not standalone

:worthy: A person that gets it.

I had arguments over this some said it was latency or jitters or quantizing. The fact was my notes be off and getting a standalone is going to eliminate that.

Im in the box by the way l don't use an interface.

Also the standalones MPCs do have latency because its standalone.
I am loving tha X. Can't wait to get it.

How to solve this problem in the mpc software.... Set you audio device properly to minimise latency or turn on time correct on the MPC and choose an appropriate resolution before recording MIDI.

But that won't be a remedy once you've got 24+ plugin tracks and some heavy cpu hogging vst's loaded.

The way I'm planning to use the X is as follows:

Once I'm satisfied with my plugin (vsti) tracks I will bounce that track and unload the plugin and assign the bounced audio track to a program (and I'll chop it if necessary).

This way I'll keep the CPU usage low and can use it to load mastering effects on the master output. When I need the sequencer to be tight again I'll just disable the mastering vst's or go stand alone mode.

Fanu wrote:Yup, no latency is one of the big selling points and joys of a standalone. You play it, and it plays back exactly when you hit the pad.
We all like to mess with all kinds of plugins in DAWs, but that hinders the playability of pads with them.

I think the latency is mostly academic; cos for all intents and purposes you wont notice the latency when using controllers.

Even though the latency may be measurable using some sensitive equipment; most users cannot perceive any latency unless ur buffer settings and sound card settings are messed.

I defo have note noticed and difference in latency or note placement when comparing the mpc studio to the mpc1000.

also the gear4 music video has now been made private did anyone watch?

I've got a 2kXL and a Renaissance, and I can quite honestly say I notice no difference in response times from hitting the pad to hearing the sound....

I can only assume people have their settings wrong, or are using busted azz lagging computers or something....

it really doesn't need to be like that....

I agree the settings or the PC is poorly spec'ed

Ditto. It'll be a nice, and welcomed change.

I just don't understand why people keep questioning why a standalone is valuable :hmmm: CLEARLY enough people asked for it, that Akai decided to invest the time and money to develop it. That should be enough of an answer - LOTS of people wanted it, so CLEARLY it's valuable to have (for lots of reasons). When I go to studios, it's ridiculous how many laptops have to be propped up just to work on music these days. There's more laptops in the room than there are instruments. It will be nice to at least be able to get rid of one of those laptops. LOL
