the manual is not very clear to me about how the file/folders work. say i have one folder(a) on my pc and in that folder there are 10 other folders(b-k),all containing sounds. can i load the one folder,(a) that holds folders b-k, on to my smart media card and load that in my mpc and just scroll thruough the different folders? or do all sounds have to be in ONE folder? the purpose of me doing this is lets just say that i have folder b filled with sp12 sounds, folder c with mpc2000 sounds, folder d with mpc3000 sounds, folder e with asr sounds and so forth....i want to keep them together so i know what sound came from where. do you get it? or am i nuts....

p.s. if you can help me with the mpc editor issue i have, that would be lovely

In order for your 2k/2kxl to properly load aps, all and pgm files and samples, all your sounds AND these set up files should be in the SAME folder.

Try this, place one of your pgm files in a folder all by itself, load it up and see what happens. The mpc cannot search multiple folders.

What MPC Editor question, I'm not the MAN on that one but maybe I can help.

As far as keeping stuff together you can give groups of files a certain nametag so you know where they came from, I use CKRNAME for batch renaming of files, it's free and works like a champ. Do a Google search for it and it will come up.

I think 2000s can only access files that are in the root directory right?

what does it mean when i try to load sounds to my card and it says "cannot move files. cannot create files or directory" its not word for word but thats pretty much what it says. and this is after i already succesfully added sounds to the card. i looked at the card properties and the it read that the card had 15 mb full and the card is 128 mb....i tried to copy one single sound, it says that....i try to copy anything and it says that.even files with names less than 8. they are all wave files. matter of fact, they are all sounds from the akia cd. im trying to just take em straight from that cd to my cf card. thats the deal.

Which MPC do you have, 2k or 2kxl or 1k?

2k cannot do folders.
2kxl and 1k can do folders easily.

Do you have a smart media on your 2kxl? You posted in the 2k/2kxl section.

yeah u right the 2k cant read sub files, only the 2kxl

and lamp you can put your midi prgm and allsongs and sounds prgm in another folder as long as you have your aps in the main folder you just load that first then load the midi and song prgms from another folder,
but this is only on the 2kxl, on the 2kxl you can make sub folders and sub sub ,and sub sub sub folders .
good luck with this
peace

I should have stated that I meant autoload, they have to be in the same folder. sorry

For manual loading they can be in any folder you want like E.D.E. stated.

How many files AND folders do you have in your root directory?
Fat/Fat16 maximum allowance of root directory files+folders is 512.

well on this particular card, wich is a cf 128mb card, it was empty. then i opened up my akai cd and tried to drag and drop files. for instance....
i opened the 3000 folder and tried to drag the dry drums folder,(wich has no other folders within it) to the cf reader drive and it moved some of the files, then it stoped and said what it was that i wrote earlier about not being able to create destination or whatever. then, i kept what sounds it let me transfer before stopping,(which was about 15 mb worth) and i tried to drag and drop single files from each of the different folders, one at a time, within the cd, and it said the same thing for every file i tried. these are all wav. files. so im stuck once again.....

but the silver lining is that i be lernin stuf a lott
