MPC X.. where to buy it..

GAK or Gear 4 Music would be my bet....

always had good dealings with both of them...

I have Richtone (local to me in Sheffield) checking into things for me today, they have an Akai/distributor rep calling by anyhow. Told me that they'd have to sign up as MPC stockists, which they've yet to make a decision on.

If they don't push ahead on that, I'll look at GAK etc - but I was keen on supporting the local guys who've been pretty decent to me with other kit.

ok I thought some suppliers have some sort of favored supplier agreement with Akai; u say they all get the the stock at the same time but do u think different suppliers get different amounts of stock?

Like maybe Juno only gets 5 units; while Gak might get 10?

Im only talking about initial supplies when the products are first release.

Yeah I like Richtone, they're just round the corner to me, but as you say, they aren't Akai dealers so I tend to just get guitar stuff from them.

The 'box shifters' will probably get whatever they ask for, Akai will no doubt have favoured retailers, probably the guys who they've made these pre-release videos with.

I'd imagine there'll be plenty of stock knocking around when the time comes. Personally I'm not too interested in getting caught up with the frenzy on this, 2.0 will be there to download immediately so I'll become acquainted with that while waiting for the right deal on the new hardware.

so as far as the hardware reviews will u just go to a studio that has the units to do ur review?

I would think the price drop on the new units will be slower than the price drop on the MPC touch, so it will probably bet 2018 when the price for the live drops and realistically it may drop to £749, but than again maybe it might drop to £699.

I guess it will depend on the success of the unit and how the reviews are post release.

No, I just review whatever unit I end up buying.

The rep said they're expecting a shipment for the X from Akai in mid March. That's the lowest price yet I've been able to negotiate with any U.S. store. If anyone else manages to lock in a lower price, please share it here.

I didn't say he made any promises on the arrival date. That mid March time frame was an ETA they got from Akai. He even said that it may change based on when Akai delivers. Akai can take all the time they need to make sure the units are rock solid when they hit the stores.

As an early adopter, I was more concerned with placing an order at a good price I felt comfortable with. Mission accomplished.

No, I did not use a coupon. I had a quote for 1700 from Guitar Center which I forwarded to the PSSL rep to see if they could offer a better price.
