well imagine if people at that time told you "if you don't like the product... stop using it and move on" ...

you should have seen what it was like when the 5000 was the current model... what a shit show. Some people spent 3500 dollars on theirs .. and couldn't even save their work. Any of the people who had something to say who were not early adopters were accused of being too poor to afford it by a certain beta tester.

Yeah that sounds wack. I remember Just Blaze writing about it. Damn. Not a good look.

yeah imagine that... for him the missing 3000 dollars is not even the biggest issue... the time and losing his project he was working on... maybe that could have thrown off his schedule too... who knows.. back then when he was more in demand too...

i felt sorry for people who bought that out the gate because of certain people promoting it around here and finding out it was junk.

Yeah, TBH I am a bit reserved – in a way I kind of want to go and just buy that new thing, but don't want to go thru the same hell I experienced with the Ren.
Ideally just would like to see there's a few weeks of good comments coming in and less of the agony.

A local retailer who's been in talks with Akai and also had a meeting with Geoff said the team is now different from the earlier teams who've been working on the MPC.
I do get the vibe that they're actually genuinely excited and proud of the product.

I'm not sure if the 2500 etc were being marketed in the same way, for example.

the way i see it... the MPC software (once updates were done proving they were not dropping the product after 2 months) is their best product they have ever released since buying the Akai logo. The 500 was left with stupid bugs that should have been fixed and terrible pads.. the 1000 and 2500 are the same machine with a 1000 dollar price difference and features left out on purpose in the software... instead of making the 2500 better all together. they were also not built properly... they tried a cheap pad design on the 1000 which took people from this forum to have it corrected... and the 2500 has tact switches that last 6 months from brand new. Both of those machines had terrible software and luckily for the consumer... akai ripped off the coding company so they were able to continue developing the OS on their own because the akai released software was borderline unusable. the 5000 was a mess as well and still is... plus they are prone to hardware failure from what it appears. My friend bought one around 2010 for 300 dollars.. and got rid of it after 3 months... he felt the price was too high.

so for over a decade this forum was the place to come to try and make good with your purchase.. or to clean up a mess... and a lot of scrutiny of inmusic became the culture.... a lot of facepalm moves were done by that company,,, remember when they said the ren had the same circuitry as the 3000 and the vintage modes were hardware based.... hahahaha..

i am sure some of those clowns are still involved with akai and these new MPCs... but they know better than to try and lie to get sales. Well they did say the X and live have "the full blown 2.0" right before saying it was not the full blown 2.0 because it only does 8 audio tracks (stereo or mono it doesn't matter) and doesn't support vsts.. ... we know better but the average consumer perhaps will not.. hahaha

Ya andy mac kept referring to the Cambridge team. Is this a new group? I thought a lot of the programming for the ren was done stateside.

as far as i can tell, since the ren, the folks at cambridge in the uk are the main programmers of the mpc software.

[quote="Ill-Green"]Roger should've came out with the LinnDrum2 already when people were starving for a standalone.[/quote

I agree. Another option would be for Roger Linn to team up with Roland to make the ultimate sampler/ sequencer/drum machine. I would like a MV8800 MKII version with a signature Roger Linn sequencer.

Maybe the new MPC Live & X will encourage Roland & Mr. Linn to develop something new. :)
