I know this might be a dumb question, but can I use any type of ZIP DISK for the 2000xl?
I know most of you will say to get the card reader etc..But I want to keep it ol school with the zip disk..
thanks

seriously, if you want to keep it oldschool, then use floppies. zips are going to die on you - there is no such thing as a reliable zip.

It all depends on the capacity of the drive. Zip 100 drives can only recognize 100mb disks, 250mb drives can recognize both 250mb and 100mb disks. I'm not sure about the 750mb drives. You'll have to look into that if you want to. But I don't recommend Zip drives at all. If you wanna keep it old school, buy an MO drive. Magneto Optical is much more reliable and still as cheap if you know where to look.

...When keeping it "oldschool" makes you sound like a retard.

MO drives for an XL is more expensive than using a CF card reader.

Yeah that's correct. IDE CF drives are $5 or so.

If you just have to use Zips, go for the Zip750. It's more reliable than the other shitty Zip 100 & 250 drives.
But... like everyone else stated, install a card reader.

expect failure with zip disks... it isn't a gamble, it WILL happen... the question is...... when.

CF is also oldschool. The 2000xl didn't come stock with zip either... that was an add-on just like the memory card reader was. In fact, even SD cards came out before the 2000xl was released.

Best thing I ever did for my 2kxl was an atapi mcd.

I prefer to use zip disks because I'm keeping it real and zip disks are analog so that they make my sounds sound more soulful.
