i hear there are certain parts of the software on the touch that just say coming soon,

Yes,'Q Link Edit' mode for the touch interface is displayed as 'coming soon'. The other coming soon age was keygroup edit, but that was addressed in 1.9.6.

Also my understanding is that these early adopters are on the clock because only units purchased in the lat 4 months are entitled to a free 2.0; so this begs the question (presuming 2.0 is release ready) are they delaying the release to make sure nobody is eligible for the free 2.0 offer?

According to this press release, MPC Software 2.0 is free to all Touch users, period. It is Ren and Studio owners who are on the clock.

However I seriously doubt Akai are delaying release to avoid giving out 2.0 for free to the small number of people who purchased a new studio or the long discontinued Ren just before the 2.0 announcement in Jan.

Even though 2.0 is not ready, they can at least show how 2.0 would intergrate for Ren and Studio. Thats the crowd Akai should be tending right now while the new units arrive. Keeping silent is not good, in fact the cat is already out the bag.

It's only a little over a month since NAMM, but still, the silence since then is not super convincing.
If they wanted to ride the hype wave, there'd be some videos etc coming.
I feel the hype is settling a bit…it was pretty high at one point.
There's been nothing official from them since…probably because everything is still not done.
And devs – their only contact – aren't saying much either.

I can't help but cringe a bit and feel sorry for them TB :-/

The Akai website says Q1 Springtime. Meaning it's late March at the earliest. Maybe the websites should start posting that date.

Forgive me, but late March isn't the "earliest" to meet a Q1 window; it's the LATEST. April 1 takes us into Q2.

I really don't think it matters what they said regarding the live/x release date, they originally said '2016', and 'May/June 2016' for 2.0, and that never happened, why suddenly take these estimated release dates with anything more than a rather large pinch of salt? Obviously a year later they are clearly much further on with tangible hardware and working software version to show off in marketing videos, so things are coming to a head, but who knows what can happen next - discover one nasty showstopping bug and that could knock things back another few weeks. All this fixating on the definition of 'Q1' is ridiculous.

At some point we're going to wake up to find a 2.0 update notice in our inboxes - until then, meh, whatever.

Yup, good to understand that while Akai probably have good intentions, they move SLOWLY.
Pretty sure they meant 2016 with 2.0, but hey, look, we're now in March '17, and no 2.0.
They're probably in a tough situation right now: hype's still in the air a bit, while users are busting their balls about PDC.
What to do: spend a few more months coding etc, get it all right, and lose all the hype and make impatient people even crankier – or get it out ASAP and then face the wrath of those unhappy with an unfinished product?

What's to learn here…? Best not to announce stuff until you really are damn close.

Well, what Akai should of done, was release a straight up Stand Alone, not connected to a computer and worrying about the software to it, for control. They should of concentrated on Ren, Studio, and Touch 2.0! If it was straight up stand alone it would be out already. That's what I would of done, a lot of cats want that stand alone, including myself. They should of split the department some to work on the hardware and some to work on the software. Crazy! Its only March 2 they still have time to make the first quarter. If they don't... Ummmmm. I know dudes are jumping ship. Doesn't matter to me I will wait, but I am not making a pre-order, that's not happening.
Getting people hyped and not giving really good details is not cool on Akai's part. But I do understand they gotta get the software right.

If I were them right now, I would sell the stand alone without the 2.0 software, make an announcement that you can buy the stand alone and when the 2.0 is finished you can down load it. Simple. I am sure there are a plethora of stand alone people more than 2.0 software users. If I am wrong I am wrong. I don't blame people if they do jump ship, I am just going to wait, I got dough to make, not going to stop to wait on a machine that I have no time line to, other than Pete Goodliffe's twitter to me.

To AkaiProAu, to tell someone to ask Pete when the date is, well, Pete does the software, and he was asked, but being that YOU are AkaiProAu you should have a definitive answer, not tell someone "well ask Pete" that's bananas to me. Akai started the hype they are responsible for it. This is not the only product that people are going crazy for and want it like........ NOW! This happens to a lot of products not just to the MPC's that are coming out.

Not possible because the standalone runs 2.0 as well, it's just a different (Linux) port of the software with a different UI. They haven't developed two completely unique versions, they'll use the same code base. The MPC Software is developed using the Juce framework, it allows them to compile the software for several different target platforms from a single code base.

Stand alone mode, runs 2.0, you don;t need a computer am I correct? From what I am seeing they got the machines good with the stand alone 2.0 its the 2.0 software that they are trying to get straight for the machines to turn into a controller.
